A surprise birthday party last March 3 left an overjoyed Rudy Fernandez teary-eyed. The said party was organized by Rudy's close friends Senators Bong Revilla and Jinggoy Estrada, and wife Lorna Tolentino.
"Ini-expect ko na tayo-tayo lang, mga small groups. Pagpasok ko, biglang ang dami kaya nasira ang pagka-macho ko, napaiyak ako," Rudy jokingly said in his interview with Lorna for Startalk.
The action star added, "Thank you sa iyo [Lorna], sa mga kaibigan ko, si Jinggoy, si Senator Bong, si Phillip [Salvador]."
All the guests were unanimous when they gave their wishes to Daboy: Good health and long life.
Rudy was obviously emotional because he is now faced with a serious health problem. His wife Lorna revealed that Rudy has a recurrence in his cancer-related sickness. Lorna explained Rudy has an "ambulatory" type of stomach cancer. Meaning, that the person affected is not confined to bed and is strong enough to walk.
According to Wikipedia, stomach cancer (also called gastric cancer) can develop in any part of the stomach and may spread throughout the stomach and to other organs; particularly the esophagus and the small intestine. It is associated with high salt in the diet, smoking, and low intake of fruits and vegetables. Stomach cancer is often asymptomatic or causes only nonspecific symptoms in its early stages.
Lorna also revealed that she and Rudy regularly visit the hospital the past few weeks for series of tests to find out the development of her husband's condition.
The ever-positive Rudy Fernandez left a promise only strong men declare: "I ain't gonna die yet!"
