Take a bow, Ms. Ruffa!

Ruffa Gutierrez is a busy woman.

She is mom to Lorin and Venice, daughter to Eddie and Annabelle. She has just wrapped up her TV series, Kokey. She is seen on the showbiz talk show, The Buzz, every Sunday. She is also visible as a product endorser. In other words, she’s an all-around celebrity.

In the midst of her busy schedule, Ruffa makes sure to devote time for her other passion—helping other people.

ruffa-blog.jpgWe are opening PEP’s Thumbs Up! blog with Ruffa’s civic activities. She is also the current recipient of YES! magazine’s “Bravo” Award, which commended her efforts in spearheading a bazaar last March 18, 2006, to help raise funds for the Leyte mudslide victims.

Ruffa has been involved in philanthropic activities since she was a teenager. In her interview with PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal), she said, “Since I was fifteen, I was already helping. I used to help Asilo Medalla Milgrosa, which is in Cebu, ‘tsaka yung Hospicio de San Jose. Ever since I was fifteen, talagang naggi-gift-giving na ako with the orphans.”

In 1998, she founded Roof-A-Child Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides shelter for homeless children. Even when she stayed in Istanbul, Turkey, she also helped children with Leukemia at the Okmeydan’s Children Hospital, and those with diabetes at the Bakirkoy Orphanage for Children.

ruffa1-blog.jpgLast January 5, she held a gift-giving activity at White Cross, a home for less fortunate children in San Juan.

“Ewan ko, love na love ko mga kids. When you hug them, when you kiss them, I’m so happy! Parang gusto na nilang magpauwi sa iyo. If I can only take them home, why not, ‘di ba? Para marami ng kapatid sina Lorin and Venice,” the actress-TV host said.

In the middle of this year, at the height of her controversial breakup with husband Yilmaz Bektas, Ruffa visited The Haven, a center for abused women and children in Alabang, Muntinlupa.

When asked about her feelings when she spent time with the women at The Haven: “Yeah, I felt like I was one of them. But I also felt like there’s a reason for me to be happy and to be grateful because my family is behind me.”

The former Ms. World Second Princess’ most recent project was “RRRampa for a Cause” held last September 16. It was a bazaar and fashion show, where her celebrity friends gladly offered their support. That event was able to raise funds, amounting to 1.5 million pesos, for Make-A-Wish Foundation and World Vision.

PEP attests to Ruffa’s unwavering energy for her charitable activities outside of showbiz. After the birthday party of her daughter Venice last September 11, PEP Managing Editor Karen Pagsolingan reported that Ruffa met up with various suppliers for the RRRampa project right after the party.

Take a bow, Ms Ruffa.

Two thumbs up for Ms. Gutierrez and nice article sa part ng PEP. Dapat talaga ganito may feature kung ano ba ang ginagawa ng artista in terms of charity hindi puro lang pagpapaganda at kontrobersya. Congrats both to Ruffa and Pep for the nice feature. More progress and blesses from the Lord.
