As Youth Ambassador of the Dept. of Education (DepEd), Sam Concepcion endorses its PaperClay Art Competition. The nationwide project was launched at the Manila Ocean Park last November 12.
The young singer-actor believes that PaperClay art is a great tool in exercising the creativity of students and the youth.
"PaperClay art is for everybody. It will be a very effective way to channel the creativity into something that can make a difference. This thing is made here in the country," Sam says.
PaperClay is an art medium that has the consistency of moist-colored paper with a hint of clay, which can be applied on any surface: wood, glass, ceramics or even metal.
Sam and his younger sister are into PaperClay art. He's very happy that he's endorsing the project to other young people.
"It's quite popular in some schools. I've really tried it before pa. Their business started four years ago. It started here in the Philippines. There's no PaperClay art yet in any part of the world," Sam beams with pride.
But he admits he's not a pro yet, unlike his sister who's able to draw new patterns with PaperClay art.
"It's very nice. You can do something as simple as those Disney characters, or you do abstract pieces as well. They're really great masterpieces. It's a great medium," says the singer-actor.
The theme of the contest is "Ako Para sa Kalikasan." Elementary and high school students in both public and private schools can join. Competiton began at the different levels last October 19, and will culminate in February 2010. At stake in the competition is 50,000 pesos for both the Elementary and High School Divisions.
