Pokwang couldn't stop herself from crying as her family and friends greeted her at the surprise children's party prepared for her last Wednesday, August 25, at Dad's Place, Scout Tuazon St. in Quezon City.
The comedienne said she didn't have an idea about it. She thought she would just have a meeting with Mr. Johnny Manahan of Star Magic, the ABS-CBN's talent arm that handles her showbiz career.
"Sabi sa akin, may meeting daw ako with Mr. M. Ang gusto ko nga naka-T-shirt lang ako. Thank you po sa lahat ng mga nagmamahal sa akin, sa lahat ng nandito ngayon," Pokwang said as she wiped her tears.
Pokwang's dream to experience a children's party was fulfilled with the help of her co-host and close friend Mariel Rodriguez, who thought of this idea as her birthday gift to Pokwang. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to attend the party; her rumored boyfriend and Pilipinas Win na Win host Robin Padilla was also away.
Still, Pokwang had fun celebrating her 36th birthday two days in advance with her other showbiz friends including her PWW co-host Kris Aquino, who was with her sons Joshua and Baby James.
In a short interview with ABS-CBN's Queen of Talk, she described Pokwang's traits as a friend. Kris said, "I found a true friend in her. Sana lifelong talaga 'yong friendship. Sana more people would really see her true self. Kasi, maalaga siya at maalalahanin. Siguro, every week o twice a week, siya talaga ang nagdadala ng pagkain [sa set]. Alam mo, she's just so genuine. Nakikita ko sa kanya na pa-grow nang pa-grow 'yong talent so, sana mas lalo pang ma-showcase ng ABS-CBN 'yong angking galing ni Pokie."
Then she gave her wishes for the birthday girl. Kris said, "Una, sana matapos na rin ang bahay niya at hindi mabaon sa gastos. Pangalawa, sana 'yong movie na ginagawa niya ngayon na kasama si Erich [Gonzales] at saka si Enchong [Dee] maging super big hit. Pangatlo, sana maraming-marami pang mga TV shows. Pang-apat, sana dumating na 'yong tamang pag-ibig sa buhay mo!"
Other well-wishers were her PWW co-host Valerie Concepcion, former Wowowee co-hosts Saicy Aguila, Kelly Misa, and Isabelle Abiera, fellow comedians Chokoleit and Pooh. Banana Split director Edgar "Bobot" Mortiz, Star Magic executive Mariole Alberto, and ABS-CBN executives Cory Vidanes and Linggit Tan also came to celebrate with Pokwang.
