Besides being handsome athletes, (L-R) James Younghusband, Phil Younghusband, and Aly Borromeo share one other thing in common—their passion for chocolate. They say that chocolate is a very important part of their diet as it gives them the energy boost they need to survive the demands of playing football and engaging in other non-sports activities.

The Philippine Azkals Football Team has definitely gone a long way from being an obscure sports group two years ago.

Today, its members are considered as some of the country's top sports celebrities and have grown busier by the day with all their public appearances, on top of their hectic football schedule.

So how do they manage to stay energetic throughout the day?

Well, on April 13, at the launch of the Snickers “You’re Not Yourself When You’re Hungry” campaign held at the SM Mall Of Asia, Phil Younghusband,  James Younghusband, and Aly Borromeo revealed their secret to staying pumped up.

They all agree that munching on a bar of milk chocolate crammed with roasted peanuts, caramel, and nougat provide enough energy to get them through their daily activities.

Midfielder James says that it has become his habit to take a few bites of his favorite sweet treat before the start of every football game.

He says the sugar and carbohydrate contents of a nutty chocolate bar helps boost his endorphins.

It keeps him in top condition to perform his best on the field.

His brother Phil agrees and does the same ritual every time.

The feeling of fullness in the stomach after gobbling up a whole bar of chocolate allows Phil to focus his thoughts into the game instead of worrying about his hunger.

As a striker, it is very important for Phil to not lose his concentration as he is the guy tasked to hit the ball right into the goal.

Skipper and team captain Aly also relies on a bar of chocolate to keep his mind alert and his emotions stabilized.

He admits to becoming grumpy and irate whenever he feels hungry, so in order to lead his team better on the field, he keeps himself full with a satisfying bar of sweets.

He also revealed that he eats chocolate after every game or workout as it quickly replenishes the nutrients lost by his body after excessive sweating.

He says, “Post-workout is actually the perfect time to eat a bar of chocolate because that's when your body is drained and is ready to receive the nutrients you intake.
