It’s not often you see twins in local showbiz. In fact, if you had to recall twins that made it in the early years of show business, you'd probably go blank.
Since the late '90s, however, you find several twins who have tried their luck and made a name in the world of showbiz. Some of them are the offspring of known celebrities, and so, critics say they were able to enter showbiz simply because of their blood ties. On the other hand, there are twins without such connections who work really hard for recognition.
Let's give these twins a chance to prove that they have their own talent to show, that they deserve a place in showbiz, whether or not their parents are bigshots in showbiz.
PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) gives you a list of twins who made you confused while watching TV or films. Find out who is who and how they differ despite their similarity in physical appearance.
Richard and Raymond Gutierrez. These sons of Eddie Gutierrez and Annabel Rama are the best-known identical twins in showbiz. Now 23, they've been visible in TV and movies since they were kids. In fact, they were only around three years old when they appeared in the movie Lahing Pikutin with their father Eddie Gutierrez and siblings Ruffa, Ramon Christopher, and Tonton. Later on, they worked with already famous Pinoy stars like the Queen of Philippine Cinema Susan Roces, Ogie Alcasid, Manilyn Reynes, and Janno Gibbs in Feel na Feel (1990).
The twins took a break from showbiz to finish their studies. Afterwards, Richard made a comeback by appearing as Enzo in the defunct teen-oriented TV show titled Click, where he was first teamed up with Angel Locsin. The Richard-Angel tandem was such a hit that it led to Mulawin, one of the highest-rating TV shows, and to the blockbuster movies: Let the Love Begin (2005), I Will Always Love You (2006), the soon-to-be an international film titled Sigaw (2004), and their latest romance film The Promise (2007).
Though Richard and Angel parted ways, the young actor continued to be a superstar with his fantaserye Captain Barbell and Lupin. He is also set to star in the TV adaptation of Carlo J. Caparas’s comics titled Kamandag.
If Richard stands out as an actor, Raymond, on the other hand, seems to have chosen less glare in the limelight. Raymond is more known for his hosting skills. He first appeared as a host in the Sunday concert TV SOP and SOP Gigster. But his hosting glowed better when he co-hosted with Dingdong Dantes and Jolina Magdangal in the last two seasons of StarStruck—Starstruck: The Nationwide Invasion (2005) and Starstruck: The Next Level (2006).
As more and more people lauded Raymond's hosting skills, offers to host other shows poured in. Raymond is still visible in SOP, but recently he joined Pia Guanio and John "Sweet" Lapus to form a hosting trio for Showbiz Central. He also hosted this year’s Binibining Pilipinas. Lastly, if his twin brother Richard has his own teleserye, Raymond has his regular shows— MMS, Musik Mo Sikat and Living It Up! on QTV.
Felix and Dominic Roco. Bembol Roco's twin sons first tried showbiz by doing a small role in the comedy film Otso-Otso, Pamela-mela Wan (2004). But these teenagers earned wider recognition when they joined the defunct youth-oriented TV show Qpids. At 16 years old, Felix and Dominic made the young girls go gaga over their handsome looks.
Their actor-director dad must have given them pointers on acting. They both appeared as twins in TV series such as Super Inggo (2006), where they became suitors of teen star Empress Schuck, and Super Twins (2007), where both of them played the role of Camille Prats's friends.
Late this year, the brothers went their own ways in choosing which career to pursue. While Dominic continues to improve on his acting skills, Felix became part of the all-male singing group called The Studs. Felix went daring in his sexy poses for X-Ray magazine's 2008 calendar .
Jaja and Boomboom Gonzales. While the Gutierrez and Roco twins were recogniszed because they had parents who were already known actors, the next identical lady twins did not really have that kind of association.
People know them as JaBoom Twins. Jaja (Katrina Gonzales) and Boomboom (Kristine Gonzales), 22 years old, first appeared in public for a shampoo commercial with a theme song titled Sumusunod Sa Galaw. With this, Magandang Tanghali Bayan offered them to become mainstays.
Aside from TV hosting, the twin’s hit jingle for the shampoo product became a hit single when revived by Sandara Park. The pair also had their first acting career by playing a small part in the defunct afternoon sitcom Maid in Heaven (2004).
After that, JaBoom twins took a short break from showbiz. When they came back, people were surprised when the pair joined the Kapuso Network. They played the role of Lotlot and Letlet in the defunct sitcom of QTV-11 called Laugh to Laugh. Later, they became a part of the third installment of the fantaserye Encantadia: Pag-ibig Hanggang Wakas as Luntian (Jaja) and Violeta (Boomboom).
Until now, Jaja and Boomboom still appear in different TV talks shows as guests.
Charlotte and Charisse Hermoso. They are the famous granddaughters of Lola Obang in the series of Surf commercials. Televiewers followed their “commercial” life from the day when Lumen and Lando announced that they were having a baby, until these twins were born.
But the story didn’t stop there. The cute babies grew up and became pretty little girls, who were played by Charlotte and Charise Hermosa. The identical twin even had the TV viewers, especially kids, sing and dance with them when Surf launched their special ad for Mother’s Day.
This year, they were seen in the recently concluded teledrama titled Impostora (2007). The twins had their first taste of real acting by playing the role of young young Sara (Charisse) and young Lara (Charlotte).
Maverick and Cassandra Legaspi. These fraternal twins have inherited the genes of their good-looking parents Carmina Villaroel and Zoren Legaspi. While they were still babies, many believed that, just like their parents, cameras would love them too when they grow up.
True enough, now that they’ve turned six years old, they have already become part of some commercials in television. Cassey and Mavey, popular names of the twins, have played with their mom for TV milk ad and have danced with mommy for a noodle commercial.
Mavey, who is two minutes older than his twin sister Cassandra, was seen recently with his Mommy Carmina for a popular toothpaste brand commercial. Who knows, Cassey might also have her own product endorsement soon. Or maybe after a few more years we would see these kids already grown up and trying their first movie or television series.
Atasha and Andres Muhlach. Here are celebrity kids to look forward to in the future. Why not, their genes came from their beautiful parents—former matinee idol Aga Muhlach and former beauty queen Charlene Gonzalez.
At five years old, Atasha and Andres are already known endorsers of the biggest fast-food chain in the Philippines, following their father. In fact, every year, the fraternal Muhlach twins touch the heart of every Pinoy in the family-oriented Christmas commercial of the said fast-food chain.
Will Aga support his children if the want to join the show business? “We’ll cross the bridge when we get there,” said Aga in an interview with YES! magazine. “I just want them to be kids and just be like that. Di ko sila mamadaliin pagdating sa mga bagay-bagay.”
