Looking back, Giancarlo “Gian” Jose Sotto and his new bride, Joy Marie Woolbright, can’t help but laugh at the way their relationship started on a “freaky” note.

Gian, the only son of former Senator Tito Sotto and actress Helen Gamboa, reveals that he first saw Joy back in 1998.

“Gustong-gusto ko siya no’ng una ko siyang makita,” he says.

“Nagagandahan ako sa kanya. Pero siya, hindi niya alam na maganda siya. ’Yong simplicity na gano’n—kaya ako nahulog sa kanya nang tuluyan. Sabi ko, siya ’yong gusto kong maging nanay ng mga anak ko.”

But what was love at first sight for Gian was something else for Joy, simply because she didn’t know who her secret admirer was!

“It’s a long story,” she explains. “May mga stalking incident pa kami. Hindi ko pa siya kilala no’n, he would text me na parang ‘Hey, I just saw you.’ Hindi ko alam what he looked like. So, freaky, di ba?”

“Babe, I just got carried away,” he tells her. “Pasensiya ka na. Masyado ka kasing maganda.”

It took a while for Gian to finally muster enough courage to introduce himself. But nine years after he first caught sight of her, Gian and Joy finally tied the knot on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon—with their son Hugo as “man of honor” and ring bearer.

The 28-year-old groom says he only had one objective in mind for the wedding day: “My goal that day was to make Joy happy. That she has fun. Whatever she does, basta masaya, okay, game.”
