Children have always been close to Kim Chiu’s heart, so every time she wants to share her blessings, the young Kapamilya actress chooses an institution that focuses on their welfare.
This yearly act of charity started when Kim came out of Pinoy Big Brother’s house, where she became the grand winner in its first teen edition in 2006.
This year, for her 22nd birthday tomorrow, April 19, Kim prepared a party for the less fortunate kids from Loyola Heights and Cubao in Quezon City.
“Talagang meron akong charity event for my birthday,” said Kim when PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other media interviewed her after the kiddie party she prepared at Loyola Heights Hall in Quezon City last Monday, April 16.
She continued, “Gusto ko ‘yong mga batang walang magulang,”
“Two years ago ‘yong mga babies. Then, last year, ‘yong mga babies lang na iniwan sa kalye.
In 2010, Kim had separate pre-birthday celebrations at the Holy Family Home Charity and Fabella Hospital, where she donated two incubators.
The following year, Kim went to Grace To Be Born Shelter to celebrate her 21st birthday with the abandoned kids and unwed mothers.
“Ngayon, naisip ko huwag na muna ‘yong mga baby. ‘Yong mga palaki naman na bata.
“Ngayon, kasama ko sila para sa birthday ko,” said Kim.
“Ang ano ko kasi, parang malapit ang loob ko sa mga batang walang magulang.
“Kasi, laking lola ako. Wala rin akong magulang. I have my dad pero wala siya sa side ko.”
The kids, who were clueless about their special guest, were initially entertained with the tricks of magician Aldino.
Later on, Kim arrived at the party with a card covering her face and body.
The moment Kim took off the cover, the kids shouted in surprise when they saw the former My Binondo Girl.
