Fresh from their victory last Sunday, May 6, PBA Commisioner’s Cup champion team B-Meg meet their fans to celebrate.
Hundreds of B-Meg fans had the chance to meet the players at a party held last Tuesday, May 8, at the San Miguel Properties Center in Ortigas, Mandaluyong City.
In a quick interview with one of B-Meg Llamados’s key players, James Yap, said it’s okay if their team won’t get a chance to rest after the conference. At least, he said, their fans would still get to see them in the coming PBA Governor’s Cup, which will start on May 20.
“Alam naman namin na kapag walang PBA, nami-miss kami ng mga fans,” he said. “At least, maiksi lang ang pagitan ng next conference. At okay naman na nakuha namin ang championship.”
Coach Tim Cone was amazed by the support they got from their fans last Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.
In a separate interview during the party, Coach Tim said, “You get 20,000 people in the stadium is just amazing. You know, 70 or 80 percent of them are for you, wow!”
He further noted, “I’ve said this a few times already but it becomes more and more true as I say it—from the bottom of my heart, we would not have won that Game 7, we would not have won that series without the B-Meg fans, who were cheering us on.”
Coach Tim was one of the important persons who helped Alaska become a strong team in the PBA. It won nine championships when he was coaching the team in the 1990s.
BUILDING ANOTHER DYNASTY. Coach Tim left the Alaska Aces late last year and he said he never regretted what he did in the team.
Now, he’s focused on helping Llamados players to achieve their dream.
He related, “What’s fulfilling now is that I’ve come here and have been able to contribute to the organization.
“I’ve been able to contribute to the careers of James Yap, [Marc] Pingris, [JC] Intal, and [PJ] Simon.
“That just makes me feel really good knowing that I contributed to that and helped them achieve some of their dreams.”
Should fans expect a back-to-back championship from B-Meg Llamados?
“Well, certainly,” Coach Tim replied.
