“The best way is to maintain the standard of the production,” says Kuh Ledesma about how local talents can keep up with foreign music artists who do concerts in the Philippines.

Kuh Ledesma is one of the many local music artists saddened by the spate of foreign acts coming here to do concerts.

The Pop Diva believes that the government should act on this to protect the Pinoy music talents.

“Dapat maproteksyonan din ang ating mga artistang Pilipino,” she said in a recent interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other media.

“Dapat magkaroon lang ng regulation. I believe that it should be that way because napakaliit na country pa rin tayo, e.

“We’re still in a Third World country, limitado pa rin naman ang ating mga resources.”

She further reasoned, “Siyempre, kapag nagsalita ako ng mga ganito, sasabihin ng mga tao, ‘It’s a free country. We wanna see our favorite singers.’

“'Yan ang sinasabi ng mga young people, pero we cannot be selfish.

“I feel that it’s such narrow thinking.

“You have to look, kailangan mag-isip ka in a broader sense. What is its effect in our country, not just the artists, because lumalabas pa rin ang pera natin, napakalaking pera.

“Kung ang local artist nabibigyan ng trabaho, lumilibot lang ang pera natin dito, e.

“Puwede silang mag-shopping outside of the country pero dito pa rin ‘yon pumupunta.

“Siguro, ili-limit lang talaga dapat.”

PRICEY CONCERT TICKETS. Kuh respects that there are Filipinos who are willing to pay any amount to see their favorite foreign artists.

But if one were to ask her, she would not pay too much for a concert.

“Not because I don’t want to. I hardly have any time.

Really? I mean who would pay P20K to see you sing? or any Pinoy singers? Lahat naman ng kanta ninyo eh puro cover lang ng mga sikat na foreign artists, Beyonce, Rihanna, John Meyer? I'd rather pay big money on them than watch you cover their original songs. Besides, it's typical Pinoy concert yang mga birit-birit na yan, sakit sa tenga, pwede ba. With the exception of Ms Leah Salonga, the rest should give concert for free. Just sayin'.

I would like to correct Ms. Kuh Ledesma. Philippines is not a third world country but we are already a developing country. Third World country is far behind like Bangladesh, Haiti, etc. Please be careful when saying a fact. Thanks.
