Sporting brand Fila together with Athletes in Action organized Schools Run for School Rooms, an advocacy run to be held on Saturday, July 7 at Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.

Joining the run are the brand’s celebrity endorsers Georgina Wilson, Borgy Manotoc and Tim Yap as well as some members of Athletes in Action.

The event seeks to raise funds for the rehabilitation of classrooms in Iligan City after the devastation of Typhoon Sendong.

Hosting the event's presscon at the Fila store in Robinson’s Galleria last June 20, Tim Yap shared the relevance of the cause.

“Nagtulung-tulungan yung sports brand na Fila, Athletes In Action, this iSport Life community… yung purpose nila, after the funds are collated [is] to raise [funds for] schools sa Iligan.”

Athletes in Action (AIA) is an organization of athletes and coaches worldwide that “takes active steps to make positive change in the lives of people through sports.”

Some of AIA’s international members include famous sports figures like Tim Tebow, Chris Paul, Kevin Durant and David Robinson.

Tim Yap continued, “Alam natin na maraming nasalanta dun sa lungsod [dahil] sa bagyo. Yung kinukwento sa 'kin ni James, yung isa sa mga organizers, na pag bumubisita sila sa Iligan, yung baha, kasing taas ng billboard.

“Sobrang taas, kumbaga nagkaroon na ng panibagong ilog dun. Talagang na-devastate yung mga households.

“Ako, personally, hindi ko pa siya napupuntahan, pero I join them in this effort.

“They aim to make ten classrooms. One classroom costs mga 500,000 pesos...

“Pero yung contribution nung magagawa sa paggawa ng isang classroom, alam mo naman it’s far-reaching.

“Alam mo, tayo nung bata pa tayo, yung times na na-spend natin sa classroom, molded us into becoming who we are now.

“So, you know, kung makakatulong, it’s time to give back, sana makatulong tayo in whatever way we can.

“Whether it’s in joining the run or telling people about the run, sana gawin natin para mas maraming maka-participate pa,” Tim entreated.
