“I’m proud because I was trained by Star Magic. ‘Yong time namin talaga, hindi kami sumasalang without proper training so, it was very rigid,” recalled singer-actress Jan Marini about being a talent of ABS-CBN’s talent arm Star Magic.

She will be joining the former talents of Star Magic this Sunday on ASAP 2012 for a special production as part of its 20th anniversary celebration this year.

Like other former Star Magic talents, singer-actress Jan Marini believes that whatever she learned from ABS-CBN’s talent arm has had a great impact on her  career.

She was one of the first talents introduced by Star Magic, where she stayed for eight years before she moved to its rival network in 2002.

Jan was one of the regular singers in the youth-oriented afternoon show Ang TV. Later on, ABS-CBN gave her a shot at acting through several guest appearances as well as TV hosting in its former noontime show ‘Sang Linggo nAPO Sila.

“I’m proud because I was trained by Star Magic,” she told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in an interview after her rehearsal with former Star Magic talents last Tuesday, July 3, for their special production on ASAP 2012 this coming Sunday.

She also recalled the training and workshops that she and other Ang TV kids had to go through to polish their respective skills.

“’Yong time namin talaga, hindi kami sumasalang without proper training, so, it was very rigid.

“But at the same time, talagang rewarding kasi, siyempre, we don’t pay for our training, libre ng Talent Center [former name of Star Magic], and talagang all out [support] sila.

“Talagang na-train kami ng singing, dancing, lahat talaga.

“So, noon sumalang kami, and now that I’m not with them anymore, I’m proud na ‘yong foundation noong natutunan ko sa pagtratrabaho is because of them.”

Under Star Magic, she became part of several TV series on ABS-CBN and she was able to release a self-titled music album.

STILL PART OF THE FAMILY. Jan admitted that there was a little misunderstanding between her and the talent arm that handled her career before. But she said it was fixed immediately.

“At that time, we had a bit of differences. Pero everything naman is in God’s plan. So, hindi ko sinisisi ang sarili ko, hindi ko sinisisi ang talent center. Sabi ko nga, lahat naman nasa plano ng Panginoon,” she told PEP.

She is happy that although she has transferred to another TV network, Star Magic still welcomes her like its own talent.

“I’m just thankful na I’m still welcome here,” she reiterated.

In return, Jan said, “Hindi ko isasara ‘yong pinto ko should the need arise. If they need me, I will be here.”

REMINDERS TO NEW GENERATION. As one of the pioneer talents of Star Magic, Jan tells the younger generation to never forget the family that taught them to become better celebrities.
