Kaye Abad is taking her acting prowess to new heights as she assumes the role of the cruel Stella in the ABS-CBN remake of Annaliza.
In an interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and two other members of the press last May 30, Thursday, at the thanksgiving dinner of the cast and crew of Annaliza, the morena actress said that her gentle features initially posted a problem.
Kaye relayed, “Ang amo ng mukha ko! Number one problema nila 'yan!
“Hindi nila alam kung pa’no pagmumukhaing matapang yung mukha ko. Sabi ko, hindi ko rin alam.”
A boost came from one of the directors of Annaliza, Direk Theodore Boborol (the other, Direk Cathy Camarillo), who encouraged the jittery Kaye, “Kaya mo 'yan. Magtutulungan tayo.”
The first step was to perm Kaye’s hair— “Ayun, kinrimper [crimp] namin yung buhok ko. Kinulot-kulot namin talaga!
“Di ba, alam mo naman sa atin, pag kulot, kontrabida. At least, kahit papa’no nakatulong!,” she laughed.
And then they made her wear skimpy outfits that somehow made Kaye, previously known for girl-next-door roles, look bolder.
“So kumbaga, doble effort, e,” reckoned Kaye, who by now perfectly accepts the challenges of Stella’s character.
The actress added that internalizing the character is key.
“Internalize lang talaga na hindi ako mayaman.
“Ang peg nila dito parang palengkera talaga. Sobrang opposite ko.
“Kailangan pag nasa set ako, kailangan hindi ako ganito.
“Kailangan Stella ako para magtuloy-tuloy siya, na magmukhang normal siya onscreen.”
REUNION WITH PATRICK GARCIA. In this project, Kaye bumps into her former co-talent in the popular ‘90s series, Tabing Ilog. The actress recalls Patrick Garcia as the “golden boy” of their batch of actors that includes Jodi Sta. Maria, Desiree Del Valle, Baron Geisler, Paula Peralejo, and John Lloyd Cruz, who played Kaye’s loveteam partner.
