Former actress Cristina Gonzales, two-term councilor of Tacloban City, is now a loving wife to Tacloban Mayor Alfred Romualdez.

She shot her last film Bagamundo with Chuck Perez, Priscilla Almeda and Ramon Christopher in 1997. Ten years later, she decided to enter politics.

Formerly known by her screen name Kring-Kring Gonzales, she began her showbiz career as a singer in the 80’s.

Later on, she became one of the co-hosts of GMA Supershow with German Moreno.

In the 90’s, Cristina ventured into ST (sex trip) productions under Seiko films along with other beauties such as Gretchen Barretto, Rita Avila and Rina Reyes.

In an exclusive interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) at Tacloban Municipal Hall last June 29, Cristina reminisced her days as an actress.

CHERISHING SHOWBIZ. Looking back, what is she most grateful for during  her life as an actress?

“Well, alam mo, being a part of showbiz, mahal ko talaga ang showbiz. It exposed me to so many people… and good people.”

She acknowledges that being a celebrity before boosted her chance of success in  politics.

“Kung wala ako sa showbiz, di siguro hindi ko alam kung baka nung first term ko hindi ako nag-number one councilor, di ba?

“So, it really helped me na madali akong makalapit sa tao. It helped me also in learning how to…makihalubilo sa iba’t ibang klaseng tao, mataas man, mababa, kahit sino.

“At the same time, not only sa pulitika, kahit sa business, maraming nakakatulong sa akin, like you guys, mga media…I opened a business, you helped promote it.

“So, it’s really a win-win situation, yung showbiz. Kaya mahal ko talaga ang showbiz. I really cherish showbiz.

“And of course, my dad was there, nauna siya. And of course, I’m also thankful na may father din ako who was in showbiz kaya madali ako na makapasok sa showbiz,” she elaborated.
