Former teen star Maybelyn dela Cruz weds non-showbiz boyfriend on January 18

Another former teen star will walk down the aisle this month—Maybelyn dela Cruz.

 

Nagsimula si Maybelyn bilang isang child star sa Ang TV ng ABS-CBN ngunit sa GMA-7 siya nabigyan ng break noong nagdadalaga na siya sa pamamagitan ng Click.

 

Part of the first batch of the defunct teen show of GMA-7, Maybelyn played Rosario, the love team of Sherwin Ordonez. Kasabayan nila sina Trina Zuniga, Roxanne Barcelo, James Blanco, Alessandra de Rossi, Biboy Ramirez, Cogie Domingo, at Tricia Roman, na ikinasal na rin sa kanyang non-showbiz boyfriend last December.

 

Si Maybelyn ang first teen star na nagpapalipat-lipat sa dalawang stations na GMA-7 and ABS-CBN before the start of the network war. Kasabayan kasi halos ng TGIS, which was Maybelyn's first big break as a recurring character, ay ang Home Along Da Riles ni Dolphy, kung saan isa siya sa mga regulars.

 

When Click was replaced by a continuing drama series Kahit Kailan, Maybelyn became active again but as a serious young actress na, especially when she was also cast in the first and only political soap opera in Philippine television, ang Kung Mawawala Ka, playing Cogie's older sister.

 

After being recruited by Ms. Rosa Rosal sa Red Cross, kung saan naging youth representative siya sa nasabing international group, Maybelyn busied herself with other cause-oriented groups—Voice of the Youth Network and Youth and Elderly In Service—bagama't lumalabas pa rin naman siya paminsan-minsan both in TV and films.

 

Maybelyn is also part of the first digital project of GMA-7, Kilig, Pintig, Yanig, and the 2007 Rahyan Carlos movie Pitong Tagpo. Sa TV naman, she was last seen sa Impostora in a brief appearance.

 

Kagabi, January 10, sa Station 168 Internet Café, kasabay ng invitation ng GMA Artist Center for its post-Christmas party for the press, was a beige envelope na invitation sa kasal ni Maybelyn with her boyfriend Michael Fernandez.

 

Simple ngunit may dating ang wedding invite in art-deco style, complete with a band of Swarovski crystals.

 

Michael and Maybelyn will tie the knot on January 18, Sunday, sa Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Concepcion at 2:30 p.m. Reception will be held at the Coconut Palace, na naging "bahay" noon ni Maybelyn sa Kung Mawawala Ka.

 

Principal sponsors include Senator Richard Gordon, Rodolfo Quizon (Dolphy), Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, GMA VP for Entertainment Ms. Wilma Galvante, GMA Artist Center head Ms. Ida Ramos, Ms. Armida Siguion Reyna, and manager Lolit Solis.

According to his Friendster account, Michael, 34, is part of the government service and also very active in cause-oriented groups. Maybelyn is 25.
