Wowowee host and model Kelly Misa recently announced her year-long engagement to non-showbiz boyfriend Carlos Fernandez. The couple had been engaged February of last year, but Kelly chose to keep mum on the status of her relationship since joining the Kapamilya network.
"Actually maraming nagulat na magpapakasal na ako," she told the press during her bridal shower held last Saturday, July 24, at Astoria Plaza Hotel in Ortigas. "It was hard na nag-enter ako into showbiz, and hindi naman puwede right away, 'By the way, I'm engaged.' Medyo nagulat ko nga yung mga tao," she said.
According to Kelly, she was scheduled to tie the knot in 2009 but an opportunity to break into showbiz came knocking on her door. "Nag-decide ako na i-follow ko na talaga yung dream ko na maging artista and maging host, na never kong in-allow yung sarili ko na i-follow," she reasoned.
Despite shelving their wedding in favor of showbiz, Kelly said that her fiancé has no problem at all with her decision. "He's very supportive naman. For him, basta happy ako 'tsaka napa-follow ko yung dreams ko, masaya rin siya. Ang punto niya, ayaw niyang hindi ko magawa lahat."
LONGTIME LOVER. After crossing paths in 2003, Kelly and her fiancé have been going steady for almost seven years now. Carlos is her best friend's older brother.
"Matagal ko na siyang friend," replied Kelly, when asked to comment on Carlos's transition from being a kuya figure to a romantic interest. "Madali kasi kilala ko yung buong family niya. Yung sister niya, best friend ko. Lahat ng kaibigan niya, kilala ko. So napakadali ng transition."
Carlos proposed to Kelly on a hill near their favorite beach in Batangas—the couple's regular getaway of choice during long weekends.
"Isang time nag-decide siya na gusto niya mag-hike, na hate na hate ko," Kelly recalled. "Gusto niya mag-hike ng bundok. Tapos isinama niya lahat ng mga kaibigan namin. Tapos ako, parang pinahirapan ko siya, ayoko mag-hike, ayokong mahirapan. But since everyone went, sumama na rin ako. Tapos midway up, nag-propose na siya in front of everyone na hindi ko alam na puro [may] cameras na pala yung friends ko. May champagne..."
She also said that she wasn't able to say "Yes" immediately because, "Iyak ako nang iyak. Hinug ko na lang siya kasi naiyak na ako."
Her engagement ring is a diamond solitaire with a Tiffany setting, made especially for her by a friend who hails from a family of jewelers.
The model-host added that she and Carlos plan to tie the knot by the beach sometime soon, since she and her fiancé are both beach lovers. "At home kami sa ganun. Yung hindi masyadong formal."
As for the date of the wedding, Kelly gave a laugh and said, "Wala pa."
