Pops Fernandez chooses to remain silent about statements of Amalia Fuentes



"Whatever Tita Nena [Amalia] said on Showbiz Central, hindi ko na lang 'yon sasagutin because I have high respect for her and her daughter. Hindi naman maganda na sasagot pa ako because Liezel has been a good friend of mine for such a long time, and Tita Nena has been a friend of our family as well. Kaya I can't say anything that will hurt them both. It's better that I'm just quiet about it and just let it pass," says Pops Fernandez about the interview of former movie queen Amalia Fuentes.

Nadawit na naman sa kontrobersiya ang Concert Queen na si Pops Fernandez. Binanggit kasi siya ng dating movie queen na si Amalia Fuentes sa panayam nito sa Showbiz Central noong Linggo, December 27, tungkol sa anak nitong si Liezel Sumilang-Martinez.

 

Na-diagnose na may stage 3 breast cancer si Liezl at ang naging cause daw no'n, ayon kay Amalia, ay ang pagpapalagay nito ng silicone implant sa dibdib. Ayon pa sa dating aktres, naimpluwensiyahan daw siguro ang anak ng mga kaibigan nito na magpa-breast augmentation.

 

Nakapanayam ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) si Pops pagkatapos nitong mag-host ng 35th Metro Manila Film Festival Awards Night noong Lunes, December 28, sa SMX Convention Center. Ayon kay Pops, as much as possible ay ayaw niyang magsabi ng anything negative or bad about Amalia dahil kaibigan niya si Liezel.

Hindi naman maganda na sasagot pa ako because Liezel has been a good friend of mine for such a long time, and Tita Nena has been a friend of our family as well. Kaya I can't say anything that will hurt them both. It's better that I'm just quiet about it and just let it pass," saad niya.

 

Pero kumusta na nga ba ang kalagayan ng kaibigan niyang si Liezl?

 

"Well, Liezel is doing okay now," sagot ng Concert Queen. "She's in a much better shape now than before. But, of course, we are praying for her health always. Kaya ayaw din namin siyang makaranas ng stress or anything na makakabigla sa kanya because she's not totally well.

 

"That's why it's better that we let all these intrigues pass. Hindi kasi 'yan makakatulong sa kalagayan ni Liezel. What their family needs now is our prayers and understanding."

 

A STRESSFUL YEAR. Naging very stressful ang taong 2009 para kay Pops. Lalo na't na-involve siya sa iba't ibang intriga, tulad na lang ng paghihiwalay nila ni Jomari Yllana, ang isyu sa kanila ng businesswoman na si Mikaela Bilbao, at itong ngang kay Amalia Fuentes.

 

Inamin ni Pops na masyado siyang "nabugbog" nitong taong ito considering na wala naman daw siyang TV show at wala naman siyang pelikula na pinu-promote.

 

Ilang beses din daw siyang umiyak dahil sa matinding dagok ng intriga sa kanya. Pero nananatili pa rin daw siyang matatag dahil kailangan niyang maging malakas at matapang para sa mga taong mahal niya.

 

"I admit that it was really a very busy year for me, busy sa intriga at kung anu-ano pa," aniya. "Nagugulat nga ako kasi bigla na lang ako nasasangkot. I'm really shocked by it all and may times talaga that I can't help but cry.

 

"Tao lang naman tayo. Naaapektuhan pa rin ako by even the smallest intriga about me. Kahit na matagal na ako sa industriyang ito, still, yung sensitive side ko, hindi nawawala. But crying helps kasi it eases the pain somehow. After crying, you feel better and you go on with your life."

 

Ayaw patalo ni Pops sa mga mabibigat na intriga. Nagagawa pa rin daw niyang ngumiti despite the controversies.

 

"Ngitian na lang natin lahat 'yan kasi I don't want it to ruin my Christmas and New Year, di ba? Wala naman mangyayari kung buong araw you would feel bad about it. You go on with your life as always. Think about it as one of the challenges you encounter every day," sabi ni Pops.

 

Kapag pinanghihinaan daw si Pops, ang una niyang iniisip ay ang pamilya niya, lalo na ang dalawang anak niyang sina Robin and Ram.

 

"I always think about my kids when intrigues like this comes along," sabi niya. "Parang automatic na kapag malungkot ka, you think of your children. You don't want them to see you na nahihirapan ka or nalulungkot ka. You want to always be strong sa paningin nila. Kaya nga my kids are my source of strength, always."

 

CHRISTMAS WITH HER KIDS. Nitong nakaraang Pasko ay nakasama ni Pops ang dalawang anak niya. Hindi raw siya nagpaka-busy this holiday season kasi gusto niyang maka-bonding ang kanyang mga anak.

 

"Last year kasi, hindi ko nakasama sina Robin at Ram. So last December 25, magkakasama kami. I missed my kids kasi nga the rest of 2009, I was always doing shows here and abroad. I only get to talk to them sa telepono or kapag nag-aabot kami sa bahay before I leave or before they leave.

 

"Kaya nga this December, wala akong birthday concert na plinano because I want to spend lots of time with my kids. Natupad naman ang wish ko kasi after Christmas, we went somewhere out of town. Doon na kami nag-bonding and we caught up on so many things. Tapos nag-exchange gifts kami. It was so fun at na-miss ko gawin 'yan with my kids," masayang kuwento ni Pops.

 

This New Year ay makakasama niya ulit ang mga anak for a simple celebration sa kanilang bahay.
