Being ABS-CBN's socio-civic arm, AFI's initial mandate was to generate welfare funds by broadcasting the plight of those in need of assistance and ensure that all forms of help solicited were properly allocated and utilized. Eventually, AFI restructured itself and geared up for a more determined, all-around developmental approach as it aims to provide a better quality of life for all Filipinos in general and every Filipino child in particular. All development programs for the grassroots carry a significant slant designed to directly benefit children. At present, AFI has four flagship programs - E-media, Bantay Bata, Bantay Kalikasan, and Sagip Kapamilya.
Bantay Kalikasan (Nature Watch), AFI's environmental arm, started on July 21, 1998. It is a media-based project supported by a multi-sector network of government agencies, private institutions, and non-government organizations. It was launched to serve as a catalyst in addressing the concern over the worsening state of the Philippine environment characterized by air and water pollution, denudation of forests, irresponsible waste disposal and their life-threatening effects.
To date, Bantay Kalikasan has 9 projects: Save the La Mesa Watershed Project which consists of the La Mesa Eco-Park and La Mesa Nature Reserve, BK Environmental Hotline, Bantay Baterya, Bantay Langis, H2Hope, Pasig River Rehabilitation Project, Eco Tourism and Bantay Dagat.
2. BANTAY BATA
Bantay Bata 163 is a child welfare program of ABS-CBN Foundation that not only rescues and rehabilitates sick and abused children, but also provides shelter, therapy and quality home care for rescued children until they can be reunited with their families or referred to proper child-caring agencies.
BB163 gives emphasis on the family through the following services: training and advocacy on child abuse prevention, rehabilitation of families in crisis, educational scholarships, livelihood, community outreach and medical and dental missions.

In 1994, AFI began to produce Educational Television programs which sought to provide state-of-the-art values-oriented shows such as
Sine'skwela, an elementary science program
Hirayamanawari, a show on Filipino Values
Math-tinik, an elementary mathematics show
Epol/Apple, a show on basic English and expressions
Bayani, a show on Filipino heroes
Pahina, a literary program for Highschool
Through the years, AFI facilitated the donation of televisions to public schools with the end-in-view of helping teachers implement a television-assisted instruction in their classrooms. To complement the educational shows, AFI also produced teaching aids which suggested discussion topics and activities using the program episodes. A research department was created to gather data and feedback on viewer's needs so as to find ways to improve the programs. A teacher-training unit was also established to provide technical support to teachers and parents who use the shows to supplement their children's education.
4. BAYAN NI JUAN
BAYANIJUAN integrates ABS-CBN Foundation's four monumental community outreach programs in the Philippines: Bantay Bata, Bantay Kalikasan, E-Media, and Bayan Foundation. Although each project thrives as an independent entity in the locations where they operate, together they strengthen a single goal: to better the lives of each and every Filipino man, woman, and child.
Bayanijuan also seeks external program partners who help them build capacities and bring efforts to scale much faster.
When all hands are working together as a community then the ABS-CBN Foundation's goal of empowering every Filipino can be fully achieved.
