Regine Velasquez was "actually surprised" when she was awarded a Platinum award for her Low Key album earlier today during the February 1 episode of SOP. Her album under Universal Records is touted as the first OPM album to turn Platinum this 2009.
Asia's Songbird's 15th studio album reached the Gold Record Award status with its sales of over 12,500 units in less than a week since the release of Low Key.
On February 1, 2009, it was announced that Regine's album is now certified Platinum for selling over 25,000 units in just two months. Kathleen Dy-Go, general manager of Universal Records, presented the Platinum Award to Regine. "We are very happy and proud to give the very first Platinum Record award for 2009 to Ms. Regine Velasquez for her album Low Key, which has sold over 25,000 units."
"I'm actually surprised," says Regine with a laugh. "Maraming maraming salamat po sa mga sumuporta sa album kong Low Key. Thank you to Universal Records for giving me the chance to record all these beautiful songs. Thank you to Ito Rapadas, who co-produced this album with me.
"Nagpapasalamat ako sa lahat ng arrangers na nag-participate at binigay nila ang talento nila para dito."
Ogie Alcasid gave a message for his girlfriend Regine. "Honey, I'm so proud of you because I know how much this album means to you. Wala ka talagang katulad."
