After appearing in the horror-drama film T2, the Diamond Star Ms. Maricel Soriano is expected to be seen on the small screen for the third installment of Sineserye Presents: The Susan Roces Cinema Collection.
Titled Florinda, this
horror TV series is a remake of the 1973 horror film of the same name
starring Susan Roces.
In a previous interview with Ms. Maricel, the actress candidly admitted that
she felt flattered to be chosen to topbill Florinda.
"Alam mo honored nga ako kasi
ako yung isa sa napili nila from Patayin sa Sindak si Barbara tapos yung
Maligno tapos itong pelikulang ito ni Tita Susan," said Maricel. "Kaya
nga nagkwekwento ako, e. Sabi ko [kay Tita Susan], ‘Naku, Tita, ang ganda pala
ng istorya nun ‘no?' Sabi niya, ‘Ay, oo nga, Marya, maganda ang istorya.'
Siyempre nakakaexcite di ba?"
When PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked Ms. Maricel to describe her
character in the show, she narrated: "Si Florinda isa siyang dedicated na
kapatid. Mabuti siyang anak. Umibig siya tapos naudlot yung pag-ibig na 'yon.
Pero muling bumalik ang pag-ibig kaya muli siyang nabuhay. Subalit nung
nag-desisyon na silang magpapakasal na sila, andun na yung twist ng istorya."
Florinda is the third movie of Ms. Susan Roces to be remade by the
Kapamilya Network following Patayin sa Sindak si Barbara (topbilled by
Kris Aquino) and Maligno (starring Claudine Barretto).
In the ABS-CBN website, business unit head Deo Endrinal announced: "Florinda
will run daily for three weeks starting February 23 as our very special
tribute to Ms. Maricel Soriano for her birthday."
Ms. Maricel celebrated her 43rd
birthday last February 25 but the show has still not been aired on ABS-CBN.
The actress has already finished taping scenes for the horror TV series but she
explains why it is not yet being shown on air. "Ipapalabas nila pero naghanap
lang sila ng timing kung kailan."
She says that she does not feel bothered by the delay in the airing of Florinda.
ON T2. "Magugulat kayo dito, maiiyak kayo dito, matatakot kayo dito," promises the Diamond Star regarding her movie T2.
When asked to choose which genre is
harder for her to do between drama or horror, Maricel picked neither but then
she explained: "Alam mo, darling, tinatawag siya na work kasi tatrabahuhin
natin, di ba? Kaya walang madali. It appears to be easy probably dahil siguro
hinuhusayan namin at dahil gusto namin ang ginagawa namin."
In this Chito Roño movie, Ms. Maricel plays Claire, a woman who tries to escape her marital problems by volunteering in an NGO. On her way back to Manila from Samar, she meets a young orphan named Angeli (Mika dela Cruz). She brings Angeli to Manila to be reunited with her relatives but Claire finds out that her ward is being targeted by engkantos. The supernatural beings even threaten to hurt Claire's husband, Derek Ramsay, in an effort to keep Angeli in the engkanto world. Find out how Claire and Angeli will be able to escape the engkantos.
T2 is currently being screened in cinemas nationwide.
