Jericho Rosales, the singer, is now signed up with Star
Records.
Last April 15, Jericho along with his manager, Angeli Pangilinan and Star Records head Annabelle Regalado-Borja, formalized the deal through a contract signing held at the 9501 restaurant in the ABS-CBN compound, Quezon City.
This new development signified the end of Jericho's working relationship with EMI (now PolyEast) Records. The Jericho and EMI partnership spawned two records—the 2006 Loose Fit album by his band, Jeans and his 2008 eponymous debut record as a solo performer.
"We [EMI and Jericho's management team] have a good parting of ways," assured Jericho's manager, Angeli.
PolyEast's Tricia Pablo confirmed Angeli's statement in a phone conversation with PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) earlier today by saying that Jericho's contract with the label was only a one-album deal. The local release of Jeans first and last disc was made possible by the quartet's then contract with EMI Malaysia.
STILL A SOLO ARTIST. Picking up from where he left off, Jericho's upcoming album with Star Records is still a solo effort.
"This is just Jericho," declared the actor-singer.
According to Echo (Jericho's nickname) Jeans had already disbanded two years ago, with his bandmates now seeking for greener pastures abroad.
"I will be working with other musicians and maraming producers din na nakatrabaho ko sa previous albums ko so I'm really excited about that. It's really challenging kasi wala ‘yong comfort ng band ko talaga. But it's time to change, time to improve and time to work with others and experiment," explained Echo.
With two albums tucked under his belt, Jericho is now determined to explore a more commercial sound to reach a wider market.
"Straight from the heart," gushed Echo in describing the overall feel of his upcoming album.
In hindsight, Echo described Jeans as a funky group with indie inclinations. "This time I learned to give in kung anong gusto ng tao... Give them first what they want to hear saka ko ibibigay ‘yong sa akin."
By saying "saka ko ibibigay ‘yong sa akin" doesn't necessarily mean giving up songwriting for good.
As what Jericho revealed after the contract signing, the album will be a mixture of cover and original tunes.
"It's really gonna be good. It's gonna be solid. ‘Yong quality niya talaga maganda," enthused Echo about his upcoming album under Star Records.
