Fans and fans clubs catapulted their idols to win in the 6th ASAP Pop Viewers Choice Awards, an annual activity spearheaded by ABS-CBN's Sunday variety show.
Instead of trophies, the winners were given a director's chair during the awarding rites aired during the November 21, 2010 episode of ASAP XV.
With her five awards, Sarah Geronimo was the big winner of the fan-based text voting awards.
The Popstar Princess is hailed by text voters as the POP FEMALE ARTIST this year. Her music video "Right Here Waiting" also emerged as the most popular POP MUSIC VIDEO.
She was able to win the POP MOVIE THEME SONG award for "Love Will Keep Us Together." This was used as the theme song of her movie with Judy Ann Santos, Hating Kapatid. She also bagged the POP ALBUM award for Music & Me.
Sarah received an overwhelming 95.99% of the votes, allowing her to win the Best POP TV THEME SONG award. Sarah thanked the fans as well as Ms. Verni Varga, the original singer of "You'll Always Be My Number One," which was used in ABS-CBN's defunct TV show iDOL.
The Kimerald tandem, composed of Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson, was able to win in three categories, namely Pop Kiss, Pop TV Characters and the Pop TV show award for their soap Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo. Kim was so happy with their chairs that she exclaimed, "Ang dami-dami nating nakuha! Pwede nang dining set ito!" On her own, Kim was also able to take home the POP FEMALE FASHIONISTA award.
This year's Pop Love Team award went to ex-couple Sam Milby and Anne Curtis. They were previously paired in the Star Cinema film Babe, I Love You.
The opening number shown yesterday on ASAP XV was an energetic "backstage" performance of "Jump." Two versions were actually shown yesterday: Billy Crawford, Piolo Pascual, Arnel Pineda and Gary Valenciano gave their interpretation of Van Halen's "Jump" while Toni Gonzaga, Yeng Constantino and Sarah Geronimo gave life to the "Jump" song popularized by the Pointer Sisters.
Winners of the ASAP Pop Viewers Choice Awards 2010 were announced in between performances of the ASAP XV stars.
POP ASTIG CATEGORY.
Imortal cast members Jake Roxas and Maricar Reyes announced the first set of awards in the "Pop Astig" category. The nominees for the POP MALE FASHIONISTA award are Vhong Navarro, Jake Cuenca, John Lloyd Cruz and Enchong Dee. John Lloyd Cruz emerged as the winner when he received 40.33% of the total votes.
As for the POP FEMALE FASHIONISTA award, Anne Curtis, Angel Locsin, Kim Chiu and Gretchen Barretto were the nominated stars. Kim Chiu garnered the highest percentage of the votes at 81.88%.
Coco Martin, Rafael Rosell, Sam Milby and Gerald Anderson were the candidates for the POP PIN-UP BOY award. Sam Milby garnered 47.37% of the text votes, allowing him to win in this category. As for the female counterpart of this award, the POP COVER GIRL AWARD, Bea Alonzo was declared the winner with 82.41% of the total votes cast. She was able to beat Angel Locsin, Anne Curtis, and Cristine Reyes for the said honor.
POP MOVIE CATEGORY
The lead characters of Mara Clara, Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes, made known the winners of the Pop Movie category. For the POP MOVIE OF THE YEAR category, the nominated films were Petrang Kabayo, I Do, Miss You Like Crazy, and Paano Na Kaya? John Lloyd Cruz accepted the award for Miss You Like Crazy, which got 35.59% of the total votes.
As for the POP MOVIE THEME SONG, the following theme songs were nominated: "I Miss You Like Crazy" (for the movie of the same title); "Paano Na Kaya?" (for the movie of the same title); "I Love You Goodbye" (also for the movie of the same title); and "Love Will Keep Us Together" (for the movie Hating Kapatid). Sarah Geronimo's "Love Will Keep Us Together" eventually won the award with 92.38% of the total votes.
The POP SCREEN KISS award was the third award that went to the love team of Gerald Anderson and Kim Chiu for the movie Paano Na Kaya? They got 44.91% of the text votes, allowing them to beat other nominees: Luis Manzano and Vice Ganda for Petrang Kabayo, John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo for Miss You Like Crazy and the love team of Anne Curtis and Sam Milby for Babe, I Love You.
The last award given under the Pop Movie category is the POP LOVE TEAM award. Nominated for this award are Erich Gonzales and Enchong Dee for the movie I Do, Gerald Anderson and Kim Chiu for the movie Paano Na Kaya?, Anne Curtis and Sam Milby for Babe, I Love You as well as John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo for Miss You Like Crazy. Ex-couple Anne Curtis and Sam Milby won the award with a text vote of 51.19% of the total votes.
POP MUSIC CATEGORY
The third part of the ASAP Pop Viewers Choice Awards is the Pop Music Category.
6Cyclemind emerged as the runaway winner of the POP BAND award when it received 93.93% of the votes from fans. Other bands nominated were Parokya ni Edgar, Callalily and Hale.
Jovit Baldivino, Erik Santos, Christian Bautista and Piolo Pascual were the artists nominated for the POP MALE ARTIST award. Balladeer Christian Bautista was able to win the title for garnering 54.02% of the votes. For the POP FEMALE ARTIST award, Sarah Geronimo, Charice, Toni Gonzaga and Yeng Constantino competed for this award. Sarah Geronimo was announced as the winner when she received 87.13% of the total votes.
Lastly, the POP ALBUM award went to Sarah Geronimo's Music & Me, which received the highest percentage at 88%. Other nominees were Erik Santos for Erik Santos: The Jim Brickman Songbook, Faithfully by Jovit Baldivino and Nina's Renditions of the Soul.
POP MUSIC VIDEO CATEGORY
Noah stars Piolo Pascual and Zaijian Jaranilla proclaimed the winners of the Pop Music Video category. The first award, POP MUSIC VIDEO award, went to "Right Here Waiting" by Sarah Geronimo, which received 84.39% of the total text votes. Other music videos nominated were "Magkaibang Mundo" by Hale, "All Me" by Toni Gonzaga and "Jeepney Love Story" by Yeng Constantino.
Contenders for POP CELEBRITY CAMEO ROLE award were Anne Curtis (Christian Bautista's "Beautiful Girl"), Angel Locsin (Hale's "Magkaibang Mundo"), Cristine Reyes (Rico Blanco's "Ayos") and Piolo Pascual (Yeng Constantino's "Jeepney Love Story"). Angel Locsin won the award with 77.42% of the total votes.
POP KAPAMILYA TV SHOW CATEGORY
The winners of the next set of awards were revealed by Bianca Manalo and Bekimon, cast members of the afternoon show Juanita Banana.
For the POP KAPAMILYA TV SHOW award, the shows that competed were Magkaribal, Agua Bendita, Maalaala Mo Kaya and Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo. The drama starring Kris Aquino, Gabby Concepcion Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo bested other shows when it received 75.07% of the total votes.
For the category POP KAPAMILYA TV CHARACTER, viewers had to choose among the magical twins Agua and Bendita of Agua Bendita, Vera and Victoria of the fashion-serye Magkaribal, Lia and Mateo of the fantaserye Imortal and the young lovers Gwen and Robbie of Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo. Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson, who portrayed Gwen and Robbie, respectively won this award after garnering 73.23% of the votes.
The Best POP TV THEME SONG award went to Sarah Geronimo's "You'll Always Be My Number One" for the defunct TV show iDOL. Sarah received an overwhelming 95.99% of the votes in this category. Other theme songs nominated were "Di Lang Ikaw" for Rubi, "Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo" for Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo, and "Malayo Pa Ang Umaga" for Agua Bendita.
Kokey @ Ako stars Melai Cantiveros and Jason Francisco were tapped as presenters. They were joined by mascots Kokey and Kekay in announcing the winners for the TWEEN POPSIES, POP CUTIE, POP FANS CLUB and POP K-POP awards.
Pinoy Big Brother Teen Clash of 2010 ex-housemates competed for the TWEEN POPSIES award. This year's nominees were KimBang (Jenny Kim and Ryan Bang), BretZie (Bret Jackson and Fretzie Bercede), TriVan (Tricia Santos and Ivan Dorschner) and JamLi (James Reid and Ann Li). The tandem of JamLi was declared the winner with 56.71% of the total votes.
The POP CUTIE award goes to the ultimate "boy next door" star. Nominees were "cuties" Sam Concepcion, Robi Domingo, James Reid and AJ Perez. In the end, Robi Domingo got the award, as a result of receiving 55.44% of the total votes.
The Koeran singing group Super Junior emerged as the POP K-POP winner with 61.60% of votes garnered. Other nominees are 2NE1, Wonder Girls, Super Junior and One Way.
Even fans clubs had the chance to win through the category for POP FANS CLUB. This year's contenders were Kimerald (supporters of Kim Chiu & Gerald Anderson), Melason (fans of Melai Cantiveros & Jason Francisco), Enrich (fans of Enchong Dee & Erich Gonzales) and Laberspark (fans of John Lloyd Cruz & Bea Alonzo). The Melason fans club eventually won with 48.67% of the votes.
