Since the onset of the global financial economic crisis, suicides among desperate individuals have become more pronounced. In the Philippines, suicide is considered a mortal sin among Catholics, which is most probably why this Asian country has one of the lowest suicide rates. However, that doesn't mean that the act of taking one's life hasn't crossed the minds of many Filipinos.

In the indie film Padyak, this taboo topic is openly discussed as represented by a pedicab driver named Noel (played by Jay Aquitania). When his friends and family members experience tragedy, the young man contemplates on committing suicide. But what good will that achieve? Find out how Noel will deal with his problems in this indie film written, directed, and produced by Aloy Adlawan. Its screenplay won third place during the 2008 Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature.

Padyak also stars an ensemble cast composed of Baron Geisler (who plays a mentally unstable law graduate), Irma Adlawan (Jay's mother in the film), Hazel Anne Mendoza (Jay's childhood sweetheart), and Katherine Luna (Jay's friend).
