Last July 13, Cinemalaya events at the Cultural Center of the Philippines were cancelled. The second day of the Cinemalaya Film Congress has been moved to July 20, 2010.

Due to a Luzon-wide power outtage caused by Typhoon Basyang, Cinemalaya events were cancelled last July 13. Film screenings of the 6th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival have been rescheduled on July 16 to 18 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. The second day of the Cinemalaya Film Congress will be held on Tuesday, July 20, from 9am to 5pm at the CCP Little Theater.

Screening dates are as follows:

ANI:  Best Shorts - The City in Indie Cinema (July 16/Friday/10am/CCP Dream Theater), Victory Joe (July 16/10am/Tanghalang Huseng Batute); Midnite Treats (additional screening): Ang Laro sa Buhay ni Juan by Joselito Altarejos (July 16/11:45pm/CCP Dream Theater); Exhibition: Biyaheng Lupa by Bing Lao (July 17/Saturday/10am/CCP Dream Theater); Midnite Treats: Campus Crush by Cris Pablo (July 17/11:45pm/CCP Little Theater); Exhibition: Ang Panggagahasa kay Fe by Alvin Yapan (July 18/Sunday/10am/CCP Dream Theater), Brother from another Planet by John Sayles (July 18/ 3:30pm/CCP Little Theater).

The Cinemalaya Film Congress carries the theme Liberating the Indie Film 2000-2009.  It aims to examine the myriad notions of "independence" in Filipino indie films of 2000-2009, especially those on inexpensive digital video format; and to evaluate the content and form of specific Filipino indie films of 2000-2009 from the point of view of their "independence."

Other objectives are to identify specific ways in which particular indie films of 2000-2009 have succeeded or failed in liberating themselves from all conventions, especially those that impinge unconsciously on the filmmaking process and to examine how the filmmakers have resolved conflicts between their commitment to pursue an artistic vision and the need or desire to reach out to all types of audiences, from the elite to the popular. Each panel discussion will be followed by an open forum.

The film congress will end with panel reports to be made by Irene Zamora, Joni Gutierrez, Cenon Palomares, Nonoy Lauzon, Nikki Garde-Torres and Jane Vinculado.  Dr. Tiongson will close the Congress with a summary of recommendations and resolutions.

Tickets for Cinemalaya 2010 are priced at P150 per film, and P75 for students. For more information, please call the CCP Box Office at tel. no. 832-3704 or CCP Media Arts Division at tel. no. 832-1125 local 1702-05.
