Pero sabi ng iba, ang paggawa daw ng indie films ay parang "exploitation" lang sa paggawa ng filmmaker dahil maliit nga lang ang TF ng stars, pero napapagawa naman lahat.
"Hindi naman," di niya pag-sang-ayon. "I really don't know. I didn't feel that noong in-accept ko ang movie na ito."
Hindi siya naniniwala na patay na o naghihingalo na ang Philippine movies?
"Sana nga, matutunan na mga tao na ma-appreciate ang independent films. Dito, primary consideration ko, maganda talaga ang script. Gusto ko talaga 'yung script.
"Tapos, 'yun nga, 'yung dalawa lang kami, parang, 'Uy! Wow!' May Boracay shoot pa."
Kumusta ang pakikipagtrabaho niya with Direk Joven Tan?
"I've worked with him before sa Biyahera with Gardo Versoza, latter part na 'yun of Seiko Films days. So this is my second time with him. Actually, wala na ako sa Seiko noon eh," kuwento ng aktres.
Ano'ng masasabi ng isang Rita Avila na sa panahon ngayon, mas namamayagpag ang TV kesa sa movies? Na ang mga artista'y mas sumisikat na lamang sa small screen kesa sa pelikula, tulad noong time nila nina Gardo at Jestoni sa Seiko?
"Well, kasi, di ba nga, affected tayo ng pirated films, 'yung ganyan, so it's easier for people to buy na lang a DVD and watch at home. It's just too bad na ganoon.
"Kaya nga, sana, itong independent films natin, e, mabuhay. I'm happy 'pag may mga kumikitang commercial films. Kaya lang, sa Philippines kasi, parang ang ina-adore lang nila, parang 'yung mga younger artists natin.
"Unlike sa States or Europe, parang the older you get, the juicier your roles become. And 'yun nga, you get more respected."
Kumusta naman ang pagsuporta sa kanya ng husband niyang si Direk F.M. Reyes (direktor ng ABS-CBN drama shows)?
"Oh, he's very very supportive. Kasi, when I read the script, sabi ko sa kanya, 'You wanna read it before I say yes?' Sabi niya, 'No, I trust you!' So, I'm very happy," pagtatapos ni Rita.
SCREENINGS AT UP DILIMAN. Aside from Magdamag, other Cinemalaya Netpac films will be screened at the University of the Philippines-Diliman, Quezon City this September. TJ Trinidad's directorial debut MKAK will be screend this Thursday, September 2; Mes de Guzman's Ang Mundo sa Panahon ng Yelo on September 8; Khavn de la Cruz's The Trial of Mister Serapio on September 16; and Arnel Mardoquio's Sheika on September 21. All screenings will be held at the Main Cinema (Cine Adarna) at 7 pm.
