Ilocos Norte governor Imee Marcos marked her comeback in film producing with Pinta*Kasi, a film that is touted to be a "hiphop fairytale movie."
Modern dance plays a central role in the film, which features the Filipino hip-hop dance group Philippine All Stars.
The film is about an artist named DJ (played by John Wayne Sace) who is immersed in a world filled with violence. He uses the place and the people as canvas for his art as he struggles to protect the place from forces threatening to destroy it. He finds beauty despite the desolation as he meets Josie (Erich Gonzales) and gets introduced to the world of hiphop and break dancing.
The film also takes pride in being the first Filipino copyrighted material to go multiplatform as the film appears in different facets: from graphic novels and comics, music videos and CDs of its all original-sountrack, merchandise (toys and t-shirts) and games.
Pinta*Kasi promises to be a visual feast as it combines elements and 2D animation and a special kind of hybrid animation with live action, making it the first mixed media film to hit the local silver screen, thus leading to the film's laborious three-year long production.
All these efforts, however, didn't go unnoticed as during the 37th Metro Manila Film Festival. In the New Wave category dedicated to independently produced films,
Pinta*Kasi has also represented the Philippines in the Honolulu and Beijing film festivals.
Ms. Imee's endeavor to promote the arts does not stop there as she is currently working on her newest project, The Lam-Ang Experiment. This graphic novel is based on the Filipino epic Biag ni Lam-ang. The said graphic novel has three volumes, with the first one already out in the market and the last two still nearing completion.
It currently has a trailer that can be watched on the novel's Facebook fan page. The team behind The Lam-Ang Experiment eyes its electronic release where it could be accessed through an e-book.
Pinta*Kasi is scheduled to be shown in selected SM cinemas nationwide, with cut scenes during the film's MMFF screening to be shown in the mainstream version. Dates of screenings are as follows: February 8 in SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia, SM Fairview, SM Marikina, SM North Edsa, SM Cebu and SM Iloilo and February 29 in SM Baguio, SM Davao and SM Batangas.
Ms. Imee Marcos produced this film with Mr. Nelson Caliguia.
Pinta*Kasi, starring John Wayne Sace, Erich Gonzales and JM De Guzman, will be screened starting February 8
