At 45 years old, Ogie Alcasid is an accomplished singer-songwriter, actor, comedian, TV host, and performer.
After more than twenty years in showbiz, Ogie still has so much to offer to the public.
Although Bubble Gang has been around for a long time, none of Ogie’s other characters in the show have left such a huge impact as Boy Pick-Up.
The bullcap wearing, moustached, hip hop guy Boy Pick-Up has become so popular that GMA Films and Regal Films decided to the turn the segment into a full-length movie.
Ogie admits that his character in this movie is different from all the other characters he has portrayed in the past.
“Si Boy Pick-up is really [an] irreverent character…irreverent character siya, eh.”
“Hindi mo alam kung kaiinisan mo siya o…katutuwaan mo. He’s just someone that believes na…he makes sense.”
“Ang naniniwala lang sa kanya, siya tsaka si Boy Back-up, di ba?”
“Pero for some reason, dahil may convincing power si Boy Pick-up, nacoconvince niya yung surroundings.”
ANTI-HUMOR. Boy Pick-Up is known for uttering statements that are unusual and seemingly unrelated to the topic at hand.
“It’s called anti-humor…” Ogie said about Boy Pick-up’s brand of comedy.
“Kaya siya tinawag na anti-humor...I’m just quoting a reviewer…may reviewer kasi ng Boy Pick-up… a blogger...”
“…Sabi niya, kaya nagwowork daw yung Boy Pick-up ay dahil anti-humor siya.”
Ogie further explains that the reason why anti-humor works is because we’re so used to hearing pick-up lines and trying to guess the punchline.
“Eto, since anti-humor siya, wala siyang punchline. In fact, corny siya. Saksakan siya ng corny…”
“Kaya lang siya nagwowork, kasi walang punchline…Biglang may magsasabi, 'Gets ko yun!'”
