Eri Neeman points out why he thinks Boy Pick-up the Movie will be a hit: “There’s a lot of hype kasi ang lakas ng segment eh, tapos just the fact that it became a movie, shows how strong the hype of this segment, how big it is. So there are a lot… people are expecting that and sana naman, we hope we can deliver.”

A lot of people may not know it but half-German, half-Pinoy comedian Eri Neeman contributed to the idea of having a Boy Pick-up segment in Bubble Gang.

Eri started as a writer for Bubble Gang but became a part of the cast a week later.

On the set of Boy Pick-up the Movie, Eri told PEP.ph he is amazed that the Boy Pick-up segment was turned into a movie.

“Actually, minsan, nagtitinginan kami ni Ogie, ‘Nangyayari ba ‘to?’  Kasi nagstart lang ‘to kwentuhan eh. Yung konsepto…”

“Sobrang overwhelming, overwhelming talaga,” he said happily.

How is the movie different from the TV segment?

“It’s bigger. Kasi dito, usually yung nakikita lang sa Bubble Gang yung pick up lines, yung battles lang…

“So makikita dito yung mga, their lives outside pick up lines, outside pick up battles, so basically makikilala mo sila bilang tao…yung mga each & every character,” he related.

BOY BACK-UP. How would he describe the Boy Back-up character in the film?

“Boy Back-up wala… Si Boy Back-up lang, talagang winoworship niya si Boy Pick-up, talagang siya ang ano, isa siyang Diyos, isang rebulto, lahat lahat na… at siya lang nakaka-gets kay Boy Pick-up sa sinasabi niya.”

“So in a sense may pagkasayad din si Boy Back-Up. Iba rin yung tingin niya sa mga ibang bagay which makikita niyo sa movie din, iba rin yung tingin niya, may pagkalabo lang.”

Eri has done stand-up comedy and worked as a VJ before. But he wasn’t really noticed until he played the role of Boy Back-up. How does that make him feel?

“Sa 'kin? Actually ako lang, aksidente lang nangyari yun eh. Kasi nung nagrerehearse kami, wala, ‘cause I write the sketch, me I came up with the concept si Ogie came up with Boy Pick-up the character,” he recounts.

“So I was writing the sketches, the characters, tapos dun sa part na yun kailangan may magreact. React audience! Sinulat ko lang. Eh nung nagrehearse sabi ko ‘Galing mo Pick-up!’ Sumigaw. Tumawa!”

“So ever since ‘non, tuloy tuloy lang, and it changed and it’s helped my career a lot. Siyempre it’s a very recognizable character so it’s helped my career. It’s really helped.”
