MANILA—Magic truly happens as Walt Disney Pictures' comedy adventure Bedtime Stories starring Adam Sandler earns a nationwide, four-day weekend gross of a stunning P19.5 million, opening at No. 1 at the Philippine box-office for the January 8 to 11 period.
This was announced today by Victor Cabrera, managing director of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Philippines which distributed the film.
Bedtime Stories put to sleep all previous Adam Sandler openings—notably his recent hits You Don't Mess with The Zohan (P15.5 million) and Click (P14.9 million)—to become the comedian's biggest opening weekend ever in the country. Bedtime also topped the P18.8 million opening of Enchanted— Disney's 2007 holiday fantasy film.
The Top 20 cinemas that generated the highest sales are Trinona (P1.28 million), Power Plant (P948,004), Alabang Town Center (P734,366), SM Mall of Asia (P731,627), SM North EDSA (P659,709), SM Megamall (P630,947), Gateway (P620,946), Greenbelt III (P 570,600), Glorietta 4 (P563,650) and Ayala Cebu (P491,350).
Completing the list are Shangri-la (P490,906), Greenhills (P464,208), SM Baguio (P461,951), Eastwood (P424,487), Robinson's Ermita (P421,186), SM Cebu (P383,400), SM Clark (P363,552), Robinson's Galleria (P355,443), SM San Lazaro (P320,733) and Festival Mall (P310,099).
Sandler stars in Bedtime Stories as Skeeter Bronson, a hotel handyman whose life is changed forever when the bedtime stories he tells his niece and nephew start to mysteriously come true. Skeeter attempts to take advantage of the phenomenon, incorporating his own aspirations into one outlandish tale after another, but it's the kids' unexpected contributions that turn his life upside down.
Still playing across the Philippines, Bedtime Stories is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International.
