Jericho Rosales and KC Concepcion have begun rehearsing for Katy! the Musical Concert. Their project, to be shown right after the awarding ceremony of the 34th Metro Manila Film Fest, will take place at the Harbor Garden Tent, Sofitel Philippine Plaza on December 27.
Echo expressed his excitement over the fact that he will be working with KC for this project. During the press conference of Baler held yesterday, December 9, Echo revealed that the last time he performed live onstage was for the 2004 production Ryan Cayabyab: The Musicman at 50.
The title of the play Katy! refers to Katy de la Cruz, a singer who specialized in jazz vocals and torch songs during her career spanning eight decades. Hailed as "The Queen of Filipino Jazz" and as "The Queen of Bodabil," she was born on February 13, 1907 and died on November 10, 2004. She migrated to the United States during the ‘80s but she went back in 1989 to watch the premiere of Katy!, a stage musical based on her life. Produced by Celeste Legaspi, Katy! starred Mitch Valdes in the title role, and its music was composed by Ryan Cayabyab with lyrics by Jose Javier Reyes.
In the 2008 version dubbed as Katy! the Musical Concert, KC and Jericho will perform with numerous artists such as Aicelle Santos, Bituin Escalante, Ciara Sotto, Dulce, Frenchy Dy, Gabriel Valenciano, Gian Magdangal, Isay Alvarez, Jonalyn Viray, Maricris Garcia, and Rachel Alejandro. Mitch Valdes, the original Katy, is also expected to take part in this event.
The red carpet of the awarding ceremony is scheduled to take place at 6:30 PM, the awarding ceremony is expected to begin at 7:30 PM, and Katy! the Musical Concert will start by 8:30 PM.
Among those slated to perform in the awards night are Karylle, Richard Poon, Sheryn Regis, Sitti and Yeng Constantino. It will be hosted by Boy Abunda.
Tickets to the event (with dinner) are priced at P20000, P15000 and P10000.
