After releasing her debut album Unexpected, which
gave her her first Platinum Record Award, Gretchen Barretto is ready to take a
chance again as she releases her second album titled Complicated.
This album is composed of 14 tracks and has the carrier single "Ready to Take a
Chance Again." Gretchen starred in the music video of the carrier single, which
was directed by Raffy Francisco. In this sensual music video, she sits on the
lap of a guy, they feed each other grapes and cherries and they drink
champagne.
During her contract signing with Star Records last week, Gretchen shared with
the press the inspiration behind her new album. "I often find
myself in a state of being in love and out of love."
"I'd like to celebrate that my life is complicated because I
know that someday it won't be. I know I have something to look forward to," she
says.
She expressed her fondness for her first album, Unexpected. "The first
album is always really special and the second is more special, pareho lang yan,
para kang nanganganak."
According to La Greta, each track in the album is close to her heart. "Ang
gaganda kasi ng lyrics. Kaya everytime I sing it, palaging may puso."
ADDICTED TO LOVE. During the press conference, she read out a message written while she was in Eskaya, Bohol. "I simply cannot escape my addiction of love and to what love may bring. Bliss in finding the true meaning of love and the excruciating thing, extreme loneliness in the absence of love, my music will usher you through my most treasured moments."
One of the most essential things love has taught Gretchen is that there is much to live for. "Love has kept me alive or is keeping me alive" she says.
When asked if she will be conducting tours for her album, Gretchen pointed out the destinations where she will promote her sophomore album. "After the Holy Week, I will be going to Bacolod, Iloilo, Davao, Cebu, Baguio around Metro Manila and hopefully in Guam and abroad."
Since controversies have always hounded Gretchen, the press asked how she is able to weather all the negative publicity surrounding her. "I am so blessed to have friends and I am so blessed to have a lot of people who love me even if I'm naughty."
With a mischievous grin she concludes, "Siguro kaya ako nagpapaka-brat because I know I can afford to be a brat, because I know maraming nakaalalay sa 'kin at nagmamahal sa ‘kin."
