Gary Valenciano announces concert with Martin Nivera is finally pushing through

"First time ito. I mean, nag-guest na ako sa concert niya, nag-guest na rin siya sa concerts ko. Pero yung tipong kaming dalawa lang talaga, this is the first time," says Gary Valenciano (main photo) about his upcoming concert with Martin Nivera (inset).
Matutuloy na finally ang pinakahihintay na pagsasama sa isang concert ng Mr. Pure Energy na si Gary Valenciano at ng Concert King na si Martin Nievera ngayong 2009. Mismong si Gary ang naglabas ng mga detalye sa magaganap na concert nila ng longtime friend and showbiz rival na si Martin.
"Yung concert will be at MOA [Mall of Asia] on September 19. It is called Martin and Gary: As One. I think it's going to be... I don't know. First time ito. I mean, nag-guest na ako sa concert niya, nag-guest na rin siya sa concerts ko. Pero yung tipong kaming dalawa lang talaga, this is the first time," pahayag ni Gary sa PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) during the presscon ng bago niyang ini-endorse na Glu-Control, a health supplement for diabetics.
Kakantahin ba niya ang songs ni Martin sa concert nila?
"Well, actually, we'll be coming out with an album na ire-release this coming August, and I'm doing four of his songs, and he's doing four of my songs. Tapos gumagawa siya ngayon ng mga duets, original duets. Tapos, maririnig n'yo rin yung mga classic hits ko na siya yung gumagawa at yung classic hits niya na ako ang gumagawa. At saka very interesting talaga yung areglo ng mga kantang ito," pagbabalita ni Gary.
As One din ba ang title ng album nila ni Martin?
"Ganun din ang title ng album," aniya. "I think may underneath na parang subtitle called Switch. It's very interesting."
Paano pumayag ang kani-kanilang record companies na magsama sila sa isang album?
"Well, basically, magka-sister company kami. I'm with Universal and Martin is with PolyEast."
Sino ang mauuna ang pangalan sa poster and billboards ng concert nila?
"Ay, personally, Martin should come first sa billing," mabilis na sagot ni Gary.
Sino ba ang mas matanda sa kanila ni Martin?
"Well, he's older than me by a year. Pero kapag nakita mo yung poster, it's 'Gary and Martin.' Pero yung pangalan dito, 'Martin-Gary.' Martin started talaga... Ako kasi hindi ako umalis. Nandito lang ako sa Pilipinas. So, paminsan-minsan, lumalabas ako sa TV."
Magkakaroon ba ng portion sa concert nila ni Martin na magbibigay-tribute sila sa yumaong King of Pop na si Michael Jackson?
"Pinag-usapan namin yun," sabi ni Gary. "There will be definitely Michael Jackson songs in it. Pero September is still some time away. Hindi namin alam na baka at that time, you know, medyo people would rather... Instead of they want to be sad, they want to be happy in remembering. So, hindi namin alam kung paano i-treat yung Michael Jackson portion."
Sino ang unang lalabas sa concert?
"I think we'll be coming out on the same time, pero sa kakaibang paraan. Very exciting."
Ngayon pa lang daw ay ipinu-promote na ni Martin ang concert nila ni Gary sa mga shows niya abroad. Plano rin daw kasi na magkaroon ng U.S. tour ang As One concert nila.
"Kasi right after here, we'll probably do Cebu, and then alis na kami sa States. I will be there for one month. Then, be back, do my ASAP performances. And be back in the States another month. Maybe sa gitna ng December, makakabalik ako rito. We'll be leaving late September until the end of October, balik ulit dito. And leave again in November until early December, I'll be back."
So, aasahan ng mga fans na magpapatalbugan sila ni Martin sa As One?
"Well, the original title of the concert is Versus, which means challenge. Pero ano, e, nagmukhang labanan na ano. Pero mangyayari yun on stage, pero sa kakaibang paraan."
