Filipinos have until December 2013 to enjoy the visual spectacle that is Alice in Wonderland. This musical is presented by Repertory Philippines and directed by Joy Virata, adapted from the book by Lewis Caroll with music and lyrics by Prince Street Players Ltd.’s Jim Eiler and Jeanne Bargy.

The entire production, performances and props are all right on the button. The perfect mix of all these elements make Alice in Wonderland such a captivating production.

The actors' movements are exact and perfectly timed along with the upbeat music. The bubbly energy exuded by the cast will captivate everyone's attention from beginning to end, making it difficult for audiences to turn their eyes away from the stage.

Daniella Gana, a Grade 10 student from the Chinese International School of Manila, is vibrant and amazing as Alice. Her voice brings a remarkable combination of vulnerability and strength to the character.

Singer and power-belter Bituin Escalante plays the Queen of Hearts with aplomb and the right amount of adorable creepiness.

Kids in primary education—the ideal target market of the show—will find Repertory Philippine’s Alice in Wonderland more accessible and entertaining than any other movie based on the book. The interactive nature of the play is more than enough to engage anyone between 5 to 50 years old.

The visual richness and vibrant characters played by extremely talented actors make Alice in Wonderland a delight to see.

The props and costumes almost steal the show as these are evidently well thought of and carefully crafted, specifically the one worn by the actor playing a green caterpillar. It is also easy to fall in love with the large teacups, mad hats and quirky chairs.

There is no dull moment in the play. The pacing leaves little room for lull moments, making this show suited to capture the interest of kids with short attention spans. The dancing, music, and story flow so fluidly that audiences cannot help but be swept away by the grandness of it all.

At times, this makes it difficult to catch up with the dialogue being spoken or the lyrics of the song being sung. But the action, the sparkling stage, the eye-catching wardrobes make up for any words incoherently heard.

It is easy to get lost in the play’s wonderland of colors and music. Though made for children, adults will similarly find Alice in Wonderland madly enjoyable.

Alice in Wonderland will run until December 15, 2013 at the Onstage Theater, Greenbelt 1, Makati City.

Chaye Mogg alternates as Alice while Reb Atadero, Jim Ferrer, and Nacho Tambunting alternate as the White Rabbit). Joel Trinidad and Nic Campos alternate as The Mad Hatter while Nathalie Everett alternates as the Queen of Hearts.
