The Magwayen Creative Scholar's Guild will perform Bidasari by January 2009 as part of its tenth anniversary celebration.
The Magwayen Creative Scholar's Guild, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila's prime performing arts and theater group, will be staging its major theatre production of the year titled Bidasari. This epic love story will be performed at the PLM Justo Albert Auditorium from January 8-10, 2009.
The final installment of a three-part saga, this is the story of Bidasari, the most beautiful lady in the kingdom of Indrapura and her love with the generous and attractive prince, Jamil. Torn by war, the wicked sultana, Lilagretha, tries to sort things out in the sultanate by getting rid off the rebels led by Armilo. After hearing the oracle, Lilagretha plots Bidasari's death as the latter poses the greatest threat to her power.
Bidasari features Magwayen's veteran actors with Alyssa Paula Tomas taking the title role of Bidasari, Ana Paula Montano as the wicked empress Lilagretha, Joseph Molina as the charismatic prince Jamil, and Ulysses Castuciano as the head of the kingdom's army, Serminyo. This will also feature promising artists from Magwayen's roster of new actors, fresh from the group's talent search dubbed as the "Artist Hunt 2008."
The stage play is directed by Gawad CCP Awardee John Borgy Danao and written by Magwayen's resident playwright and founder, Palanca awardee, Marlon Miguel. They are the same people who created the second part of the trilogy, Indrapura, in 2006.
This will be the 5th staging of the epic tale. It was staged twice in PLM (1998 and 2000), San Beda (2000), and in St. Louie College, Valenzuela (2003).
Fueled by the passion for the arts, Magwayen is now on its 10th year. And as part of its celebration, the group is offering the grand production Bidasari, which is considered as the group's most ambitious play to date.
