The Magwayen Creative Scholar's Guild, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila's prime performing arts and theater group, will be staging its major theatre production of the year titled Bidasari. This epic love story will be performed at the PLM Justo Albert Auditorium from January 8-10, 2009.
The final installment of a three-part saga, this is the story of Bidasari, the most beautiful lady in the kingdom of Indrapura and her love with the generous and attractive prince, Jamil. Torn by war, the wicked sultana, Lilagretha, tries to sort things out in the sultanate by getting rid off the rebels led by Armilo. After hearing the oracle, Lilagretha plots Bidasari's death as the latter poses the greatest threat to her power.
CAST MEMBERS. Alyssa Paula Tomas is playing the title role, the beautiful woman Bidasari. In the second installment titled Indrapura, she was cast as the young Lilagretha. Alyssa is currently a 2nd year Physical Therapy student in PLM.
Joseph Andrew Nicolas Molina plays Jamil, the ambassador of the Sultanate of Indrapura. He is of royal blood since he is the son of the queen. Jamil is the love interest of Bidasari. Currently a third year MassComm student in PLM, Joseph also made a mark when he played the death-row convict in Magwayen's previous production Eks (X).
Ana Paula Montano is playing the role of Lilagretha, the evil ruler of Indrapura. Her notable performances in the past include being an evil sorceress in Indrapura, a rich nymphomaniac woman in Hawla and a lesbian filmmaker in Eks. Ana Paula is currently a 3rd year MassComm student in PLM.
Freshman student Godfrey Santos is playing the role of Garuda, the monster of the forest. He is actually a member of Magwayen's dance group but he was lucky enough to be chosen to be part of this play.
The clumsy fairy called Zervira is portrayed by Fatimah Abinal. She will do her best to protect Bidasari.
Bidasari is directed by Gawad CCP Awardee John Borgy Danao and written by Magwayen's resident playwright and founder, Palanca awardee, Marlon Miguel. They are the same people who created the second part of the trilogy, Indrapura, in 2006.
Marlon Miguel was a contributing writer for GMA-7's Zaido and Babangon Ako't Dudurigin Kita. He was also a brainstormer for Asian Treasures. Both Marlon and Borgy are currently working for Saan Darating ang Umaga, a new primetime soap on the Kapuso Network.
