Acting classes offered by Repertory Philippines will begin on March 30 (Mondays to Fridays). Students will have a showcase recital within the last two weeks of May 2009 at Onstage Theatre, Greenbelt 1, Makati City.
Repertory Philippines is now accepting enrollments for its 2009 Summer Acting Workshop. Below is a more detailed explanation on what Rep is offering this year.
ADVANCED ACTING WORKSHOP
This class is open to advanced students of past workshops who are seriously thinking of a possible career in the theater. Advanced principles of acting such as technique, script analysis, character analysis, concentration, improvisation, proper use of the voice and sense memory are all covered in these classes and culminate in the staging of a straight play or musical. The aim is to train a future generation of actors for possible roles in the season plays and big musicals of REP.
ADULT BEGINNERS ACTING WORKSHOP
This class is open to adults 17 years old and above, who have no previous acting or workshop experience. Basic Acting Class covers all the necessary tools a student needs to learn to eventually go onstage confidently as a performer, and more.
Students will be treated to fun and learning through theatre games and exercises that excite the mind, body and spirit. They will be trained on the enhancement of the senses, the use of focus and concentration, observation, and most importantly, attitude. Exercises will cover the proper use of the voice, which includes breathing and vocal prowess; the full use of the actor's body—the main instrument of every performer; and of course challenging the mind and creativity of the artist.
REPERTORY SUMMER CAMP
These classes are open to children from ages 5 to 16 years old, who would like to experience the fun and excitement of rehearsing and learn about what it takes to stage a show. The art of acting is taught through various theater games, designed specifically to help children build skills on how to perform, be more confident and responsible. Through games they will become used to getting on their feet and moving around, they will accept the discipline that is necessary for playing a game on the grounds of fairness, and they will start on simple improvised situation drama using simple format themes close to everyday life. These games are chosen to benefit children through improved co-ordination, agility, experience the importance of teamwork, self-reliance, improve fluency and develop meaningful and lifelong friendships. The summer camp also culminates in the staging of a play or musical.
The workshops are divided into the following classes:
Kiddies Class (5-8 years old)
Pre Teens Class (9-12 years old)
Teens Class (13 to 16 years old)
