Dawn Zulueta will play the iconic role of Desiree Armfeldt in Atlantis Productions' staging of Stephen Sondheim's A Little Night Music, which won 6 Tony Awards including Best Musical.
This musical is inspired by Ingmar Bergman's 1955 film Smiles of a Summer Night. A Little Night Music is now enjoying a Broadway revival starring Catherine Zeta-Jones and Angela Lansbury. It was also made into a film starring Elizabeth Taylor in 1977. Stephen Sondheim's musical comedy recounts the romantic complications that befall mismatched lovers as they spend a delirious weekend at a country estate. The musical score of the wonderfully funny A Little Night Music includes the classic "Send in the Clowns."
Dawn Zulueta returns to the musical theatre stage after 12 years. She was last seen as Elsa Montes in the musical Larawan, the Musical.
As Desiree, Dawn portrays a veteran actress who is reunited with her former lover who is now married to a much younger woman.
Bobby Garcia, who directs Dawn in this musical says, "We are thrilled to have an actress of Dawn Zulueta's caliber and class in A Little Night Music. She was our one and only choice and we couldn't be happier that she agreed to do the musical!"
A Little Night Music is also Atlantis Productions' celebration of Stephen Sondheim's 80th birthday in 2010. It will be staged from October 15-31, 2010 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Makati City.
