Explore the depths of love through Disney's The Little Mermaid, which will be staged at the Meralco Theatre from November 18 - December 11, 2011.
Atlantis Productions and Metrobank are presenting this latest Disney musical, which is based on the animated film of 1989 with the same title.
In a magical kingdom beneath the sea, a beautiful young mermaid named Ariel longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above.
But first, she'll have to defy her father—the king of the sea—to escape the clutches of an evil sea witch and convince a prince that she's the girl with the perfect voice.
Based on one of the most beloved Disney films of all time and the classic Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, Disney's The Little Mermaid is the sparkling new Disney musical that made a splash on Broadway.
Some of Disney's most popular songs are featured in show—including "Part of Your World," "Kiss the Girl," and the Academy Award-winning Best Original Song, "Under the Sea."
These are made by the songwriting team of 8-time Academy winner Alan Menken and the renowned Howard Ashman.
The stage adaptation also features new songs by Menken and Glenn Slater, plus a book by Tony Award-winning playwright Doug Wright.
Singing champions Rachelle Ann Go and Erik Santos make their professional musical theatre stage debut as Ariel and the Prince in Disney's The Little Mermaid.
Rachelle Ann Go is one of the most awarded singers of her generation. She was the grand winner of Search for a Star in 2004, and she won the Silver Medal that same year at the Shanghai Music Festival.
Rachelle currently appears on GMA-7's Party Pilipinas.
Erik Santos, on the other hand, is known as The Prince of Pop in Philippine entertainment. He shot to fame when he won the first Star in a Million competition on ABS-CBN.
Since then, he has become a part of ASAP XV and is a popular singer and recording artist.
The Little Mermaid is directed by Bobby Garcia (In The Heights, Next to Normal, A Little Night Music, Xanadu, Avenue Q, Spelling Bee, Cinderella) and Chari Arespacochaga (Aida, Legally Blonde, Spring Awakening, Avenue Q, Doubt).
Bobby Garcia and Chari Arespacochaga were in Hawaii last year to take Asian puppetry workshops which will help them create much of the underwater world.
