Richard Gomez reveals that ABS-CBN has talked to him and his co-stars regarding Palibhasa Lalake, a popular sitcom that used to be directed by Johnny Manahan.


There have been rumors circulating on the Internet recently that ABS-CBN will tap Richard Gomez, Joey Marquez, and John Estrada to host a noontime show called Palibhasa Tanghali.

Richard Gomez was one of the guests during the book launch of the book Not on Our Watch, which is edited by PEP.ph and YES! Magazine editor-in-chief Jo-Ann Maglipon.

PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) had the chance to talk with Richard during this event, which was held last May 10 at the Metropolitan Museum in Manila.

Are there plans for him to co-host a noontine show called Palibhasa Tanghali?

“I don’t know where it came from,” admitted Richard. “As a matter of fact, I talked to Cory Vidanes. Sabi ko, Tita Cory where is this coming from?’ Sabi niya, ‘it didn’t come from us. Siguro may ibang nagfu float lang ng idea na may ganun. But there’s no truth to it.’”

Is he open to the idea of hosting a noontime show?

“I think Showtime is surviving and I think they are doing ways to improve their program.”

Are you open to the idea of reuniting with John Estrada?

“Oo, John Estrada is my best friend…Anjo Yllana is my best friend.”

ON PALIBHASA LALAKE. Is he interested in reviving Palibhasa Lalake?

Richard then revealed: “We met with the [ABS-CBN] management and they presented Palibhasa Lalake. I don’t know if they will push through with it. I don’t know if they will push through at least prinesent nila at hiningi yung thoughts namin. Sabi ko it would be nice because kahit papaano may clamor pa rin ang tao sa Palibhasa Lalake, eh.”

Palibhasa Lalake is a sitcom that aired from1986 to 1998 on ABS-CBN. In this long-running TV series, Richard Gomez, Joey Marquez and the late Miguel Rodriguez were cast as boarders at the home of the drunkard Minerva (Gloria Romero). The guys became close to her two daughters, played by Amy Perez and Cynthia Patag.

Carmina Villarroel was added to the show as Richard’s younger sister.

John Estrada and Anjo Yllana eventually joined the barkada. The Gwapings, composed of Mark Anthony Fernandez, Jomari Yllana and Eric Fructuoso, became famous on the said sitcom.

What is the reaction of Anjo and John to this proposed project?

“Sina Anjo, sina John they’re very excited about it.”
