There is obvious prudence in the way ABS-CBN created its 2014 summer station ID. In previous years, ABS-CBN's summer station IDs featured unabashed display of celebration and being carefree. This year, what the country went through—getting battered by the strongest typhoon in the world's recorded history—is taken into consideration.

The 2014 Kapamilya summer station ID is titled "PINASmile" which literally means made (somebody) smile—but it could also be a contraction of PINAS, a colloquial term for Pilipinas, and the word smile. It is witty and it elicits—you know it—smiles.

PINASmile tells the now well-documented story of Filipino resilience—after the storm, comes a bright new day, that Filipinos are not the type who wallow in grief and defeat, that there is always hope and everything is "kayang-kaya." Because of all these, "masayang muli ang kwento ng summer."

The story of Filipino resilience makes the station ID so heartwarmingly beautiful. There is something so touching and profound about how the smiles of the regular (non-artista) people are captured on video.

You see hardships in their eyes, but then you see genuine smiles and pure happiness.

PINASmile also shows us the unfading beauty of the country, even after the series of disasters it went through—and the photography is just stunning.

From the aerial shots of Batanes to the time-lapse videos of Tacloban, there is no denying that the beauty of the Philippines is simply breathtaking.

The station ID runs for 8 minutes, now a standard length for these ABS-CBN seasonal videos. This helps viewers just relax and process all the visuals they see, unlike in previous years when they would just cram all their celebrities in bursts of millisecond exposures.

The well-produced music, featuring power teen tandem Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, adds to the pleasure of watching the video. It's a meaningful, feel-good, LSS-inducing song, perfect for the season (think of it as a summer roadtrip soundtrack).

PINASmile shows that we are a strong, loving and happy race, and it's good that ABS-CBN decided this time that to show this innate joy of summer, we do not need extravagant and flamboyant street-dancing, fiesta food lined up in long tables and artistas fake-mingling with common folks.

Because for Pinoys, just a single smile can mean a world of happiness.
