After the much-anticipated acting debut of showbiz royalty KC Concepcion, February couldn't get any better for avid viewers of ABS-CBN's drama anthology. MMK brings yet another grand presentation, this time featuring Regine Velasquez in a love story that pits her acting talents opposite Albert Martinez.
Fans are delighted with the news that Asia's Songbird is indeed returning to acting in the Kapamilya Network. Her last MMK appearance was in 2001 when she appeared in the episode titled "Lobo" along with Piolo Pascual. Her performance earned for her the honor of Best Single Performance by an Actress in a Lead Role in the 2002 Star Awards for Television.
This time, Regine hopes to deliver another acting piece that will long be remembered by Filipinos all over the country. "Maganda na bumalik uli ako sa MMK para ma-experience ko uli yung magandang na-experience ko before here, yung inaalagaan nila ako," she tells the press during her February 16 press conference at the ABS-CBN compound.
For her second MMK episode, Regine will be working with Albert Martinez and award-winning director Jeffrey Jeturian in a story about star-crossed lovers being torn apart by the families.
Direk Jeffrey is very much impressed with Regine's performance as an unhappy wife. "She's an enigmatic actress onscreen," he says. "She's got a certain style in delivering a line, yung simple lang pero its so heartfelt that it stays with you. When Regine acts, she her all, especially her dramatic scenes. No wonder, she is one of MMK's favorites."
Production Manager Ginny Ocampo agrees, saying, "Whenever her schedule permits, we really make an effort to find a very good material for her. She's very open to offbeat roles, even ones that deglamorize her, which is a true mark for an actress and we are very much appreciative of this, making her one of our favorites!"
Albert is all praises for his partner. "Madaling ka-trabaho si Regine. It's just too sad that she doesn't act regularly on TV. It's an honor to work with her on her comeback episode with MMK," he says.
