Among the many Carlo J. Caparas creations immortalized in the silhouette world, Tasya Fantasya failed to weave its magic when Kris Aquino portrayed it back in 1994 together with PBA hotshot Alvin Patrimonio.

But despite its anemic track record in terms of ticket revenues and public recall, GMA-7 and director Mac Alejandre courageously took the obra from the vaults and shaped it for television while remaining faithful to the idea and concept of its creator.

To put all doubts to rest, Direk Mac stressed, first and foremost, that they continue to believe in the story of Tasya Fantasya despite its big screen setback several years ago.

"Unang-una dapat nating tandaan na bago siya naging pelikula ni Kris Aquino, isa siyang very popular Komiks novel ni Carlo J. Caparas and I think the recall would come to the material na sinulat ni Carlo," defends Direk Mac during the Tasya Fantasya press conference held last March 27 at the Mowelfund Garden.

"I think ‘yong mismong plot line at sa mismong intensyon ng istorya niya ay confident ang GMA na magiging magandang translation ito sa isang TV show at mapu-fulfill ang vision ni Carlo J. Caparas," he added.

FANTASY WORLD. Leading the cast of Tasya Fantasya is StarStruck luminary and young drama actress Yasmien Kurdi who will play the title role.

In the story, an ugly but kind-hearted optical shop sales assistant named Tasya patiently, or desperately, longs for her Prince Charming's affection. Orphaned by her father, Tasya lives with her nagger aunt named Ketay (Vangie Labalan), who desires nothing but her niece's earnings.

As a means to escape her harsh world, Tasya resorts to daydreaming and ends up spending romantic moments with her prince charming, Donald (Wendell Ramos). Donald is the optical store's handsome model and the object of Tasya's fantasies. Her vendor friend Mateng (Gladys Reyes) gives  her the alias "Tasya Fantasya" because of her illusions of grandeur.

Tasya is completely oblivious to the fact that despite her geeky physical appearance, her good friend Raz (Rainier Castillo) is secretly attracted to her but cannot muster enough courage to express his feelings. Settling for the next best thing, Raz simply settles with the role of a close friend and confidant.

Tasya's fantasy-filled world suddenly becomes a reality when she unexpectedly discovers vintage magical eyeglasses displayed at the optical shop. Her foray into the fantasy world occurs every time she wears the glasses, transforming her into a gorgeous woman. Tasya's elation increases  even more when she finds out that Donald and Raz also belong to her newfound fairytale environment. However, Tasya instantly returns to the normal world the moment she removes the glasses.

Intrigued, Tasya wears the magical eyeglasses frequently, determined to uncover its secrets and potential. Tasya soon embarks on a slew of adventures where she becomes a heroine and an inspiration.

But aside from her colorful adventures, Tasya will also feel torn between the real world and the fantasy world created by her magical glasses.

FUN CAST. Rounding up the cast of Tasya Fantansya are Alicia Meyer and Mura. For Yasmien, doing the fantasy series is like playing and working at the same time.

"Para lang po kaming naglalaro dito kasi magkakakilala na po kami and tawanan lang tawanan habang nagsu-shooting," said Yasmien to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal).

Gladys shares this thought by saying, "Magaan ang trabaho namin kasi masaya kami lahat and sobrang light lang naman ng show. But it doesn't mean na hindi kami seryoso. Seryoso kami na pagandahan ‘yong Tasya Fantasya pero kulitan kami nang kulitan, parang ganun."
