Chinese cutie Kim Chiu plays the lead role in Pinoy My Girl, ABS-CBN's first franchise drama from SBS Korea, starting May 26. Kim is cast as the leading lady for the said series because of her oriental features. She did a lot of preparations for her role, including learning to speak in Mandarin. She and the other cast members have also shot their scenes in various locations such as Tagaytay, Batangas, and Marikina.
The big winner of Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Season 1 is cast as Jasmine, a poor yet industrious girl. Since she has traveled to different places with her father, Jasmine is street smart, charming and witty. She is also a fighter and uses her favorite line "Tira-tira!" when provoked. Because of a unique situation, she will meet Julian (Gerald Anderson) and in an unexpected turn of events, Jasmine and Julian will be forced to live in a web of lies and deceit.
In the short span of time that Kim has been in the industry, she has already shown her bankability as an actress. She has acted in GoKada Go, Love Spell and Your Song. But her biggest success as an actress was when she starred in the series Sana Maulit Muli, which has been aired in Taiwan, Malaysia, China and other Asian countries. The success of her teleserye gained different awards and resulted in two films, First Day High and I've Fallen for You.
It wasn't long before Kim became a recording artist with her album under Star Records titled Gwa Ai Di, which was her special offering for her fans. She won awards for this album, such as Song of the Year and Best Female Pop Performance for the single "Crazy Love."
My Girl's original soundtrack is now being prepared and will soon be released with songs from Kim Chiu as well as Sam Milby and Yeng Constantino.
Aside from Kim and Gerald, My Girl also stars Enchong Dee, Alex Gonzaga, David Chua, Regine Angeles, and Nina Jose.
