Philippine sports enters the digital era as ABS-CBN launched its high-definition test broadcast of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines' (UAAP) basketball games last Saturday, July 11. The Kapamilya Network will also air the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) this Monday, July 13, on Balls HD (SkyCable Channel 166).
According to ABS-CBN Sports Head Peter Musngi, it will only be a matter of time before ABS-CBN starts airing boxing, billiards, and even non-basketball games of UAAP and the NCAA on HD.
"We're bringing the UAAP to the digital age. With HDTV, local viewers can now experience what sports fans around the world already enjoy: wide-screen and crystal clear picture quality, fluid motion, and digital sound. HDTV is apt for sporting events and it is a perfect fit for avid sports viewers who want to see all the action."
High definition TV (HDTV) is the latest standard in TV technology, which is already experienced in countries across the United States, Europe and Asia. As the first and only local network with a full HD OB van, ABS-CBN will mark the first time in Philippine television history to broadcast a locally-produced program and a live event on high-definition.
Balls HD (SkyCable channel 166) will air the live telecast of the UAAP games on HD from 2pm to 7pm every Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, while NCAA games on HD will air every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The primetime telecast of the games will be at 8pm for UAAP and 10pm for NCAA on the said days.
There will also be live standard broadcast coverage of the UAAP and the NCAA on Studio 23 on the same schedules. Replay of the games will follow on the same days on Balls Channel (Skycable Channel 34) on primetime beginning 8pm for UAAP and 10pm for NCAA.
UAAP and NCAA on HD are available to all SkyCable subscribers with an HD box, which decodes SkyCable's HD signal. For further inquires, call SkyCable at (02) 631-0000.

It doesn't matter if it will take a long while before the whole Philippines can have hd-ready TV sets. What's important is that people have choices. Those who want to watch it on HDTV can avail of it via SkyCable.
We should avoid quot;crab mentalityquot; and be proud that we are going digital.
Typical kapuso kaba?
Logic. North America sets the trend of HD TV Broadcast. But do you think everybody or if not 60 are using? this is called TIMELINE.

i'm gonna say this hindi para manira, kundi just to state this based out of my TV viewing experience here in north america, para hindi masyadong mag-expect ang mga tao...although HD equipment can make a TV program a lot clearer and sharper-looking on the TV sets that we're used to especially kung may converter box, true HD viewing is better experienced on an HD-capable TV set--'yung mga plasma at LCD flat-screen TVsets na uso na ngayon dito sa north america. and i'm pretty sure, 'yung mga TV sets na ganyan are still a very, very expensive luxury in our country. kaya unless maging mas mura 'yang mga TV set na 'yan at magkaroon na rin ng HD equipment ang lahat ng networks natin within the next 5 years at least, it will take a looooooooong time before the entire philippines would be able to experience real HDTV viewing, the same way na ilang taon din bago naging widespread sa bansa ang panonood ng TV in color back in the '60s and '70s.

The Pioneer yet again introduces an era of Television, proves and has nothing to explain to be a trend setter in Philippine Broadcasting. Competing
amongst Asian Nation. Making Television History without denial.
Congrats ABS-CBN ! ! !
Congrats to all na may LCD/Plasma TV, clear na clear na clear ang reception nyo, inggit na naman ang kapushows nito.. hhaha
They're doing it again. konti palang ang may ng LCD TVs or Plasma TVs na HD-capable, so ABS-CBN is just offering HD experience to those na meron na.
to elbispresko, ABS-CBN doesn't need to wait for the entire Philippine TV audience to have HD-capable TV sets. There are some households here in the Philippines who own an LCD or plasma TV, which are already HD-capable. Na-eexperience na nila ang HD via DVDs.
Kaya nga ngayon, ABS-CBN takes little steps kasi they have envisioned that sooner or later magiging mura na ang LCD or plasma TVs. Yan ang thinking ng isang innovator.
They are even actually preparing for digital shift from analog.
