Pete Lacaba, currently the executive editor of YES! magazine, describes the torture that he experienced when he was detained for two years during Martial Law.

As a journalist during Martial Law, Jose "Pete" Lacaba was torn between merely covering events as they happen and getting involved in the movement for change.

Lacaba chose the more dangerous road. He was arrested and detained in 1974 as one of the many activists imprisoned during the regime of dictator Ferdinand Marcos.

Over the two years he was detained, Lacaba suffered horrific forms of torture by police and the military agents who tried to extract incriminating information about his suspected "comrades."

Follow Pete Lacaba's story of political awakening as he relives his experiences during a dark time for democracy in the country. Ces Oreña-Drilon interviewed him for the September 23 episode of I Survived, which airs after Bandila on ABS-CBN.
