ABS-CBN's newest primetime series, Guns and Roses, aired its pilot episode last night, replacing the remake of Mara Clara. In an update posted in PEP Alerts earlier today, the pilot episode of Guns and Roses posted a rating of 23.6% in the Household ratings and 12.1% in the People ratings of AGB Nielsen Phils among Mega Manila households. This allowed the actionserye to rank fourth in both the Household and People primetime race.
In the presscon for the show, Robin Padilla admitted that he had been waiting for three years to have another TV series on ABS-CBN.
Through this new Kapamilya show, the action star gets the opportunity to show off his acting skills and be paired with Bea Alonzo for the first time.
"Ang tagal nga, e. Si Bea kasi ang tagal bago ako in-approve, e," he joked during the media junket prepared for the cast of Guns and Roses last week.
Robin said that apart from having a TV series on ABS-CBN, he also requested to have Bea Alonzo as his leading lady.
Guns and Roses is Robin's comeback to teleseryes since he transferred back to ABS-CBN in 2009.
His previous projects in the Kapamilya network include teleserye like Puwedeng Puwede (1999) and Basta't Kasama Kita (2003). When he returned in 2009, Robin appeared as a guest host in ABS-CBN's defunct noontime show Wowowee. Then he became one of the main hosts of the program that replaced it, Pilipinas Win na Win!
After its pilot episode last night, June 6, #RobinPadilla reached the No. 2 spot on Twitter's trending topics in the Philippines.
LEARNING FROM ROBIN PADILLA. Diether Ocampo plays the role of Marcus, a rival to Robin's character who is also seeking revenge for the death of a loved one.
He said, "Parang excitement ang naramdaman ko, siyempre, isa siya doon sa mga, kumbaga, haligi natin pagdating sa larangan ng aksyon. Bihira lang ang ganitong opportunity so let's not waste it."
Diet also worked out to keep up with the demands of the role.
He also revealed that he and Robin have developed "mutual respect" for each other. We have developed this mutual respect for each other. It's a big responsibility talaga."
When asked if he learned techniques on how to romance women from Robin Padilla, Diether laughed and said, "Marami, without him even saying anything...just by observing, you [learn] how to handle situations pagdating sa babae...iniintindi mo kung ano ang language of love ng babae.
"Pero nage-evolve rin ang mga tao. Yung ibang babae very liberated, meron naman gusto nila very traditional pa rin ang pag-trato sa kanila."
Does Diether want to treat women in a more traditional way or does he prefer to have a more modern approach? He explained, "Iba pa rin ang susuyuin mo yung babae, yung manliligaw ka kasi ngayon text mo lang, sagot...Walang pasakalye but kung titingnan mo, yung longevity ng relationships, pag talagang pinaghirapan mo."
WHAT ROBIN'S CO-ACTORS SAY ABOUT HIM. At the press conference, Robin's young co-actors all said that they got excited when they found out that they would be part of his actionserye.
