For this year’s Miss Earth competition, the organizers tapped young balladeer Christian Bautista to serenade the top eight candidates during the evening gown competition.
Last November 26, the sixth edition of the annual beauty pageant was held at the National Museum grounds in the city of Manila.
"Asia’s Pop Idol" sang a medley of romantic songs for the Final 8 of Miss Earth, namely: Miss Czech Republic, Miss India, Miss Poland, Miss Venezuela, Miss Panama, Miss Egypt, Miss Chile, and our very own Miss Philippines. Christian gave a heartfelt rendition of his chart-topping hits “Hands to Heaven” and “The Way You Look at Me.”
In a phone interview with PEP earlier today, November 28, Christian recalled his time backstage with some of the most beautiful women in the planet. “Noong nanonood na ako, yung naka-upo na ako with them—they were all so focused…who’s going to win, who made it.”
Christian was able to chat with the country’s representative—Catherine Untalan—who admitted her sister is a big fan of the balladeer. Christian narrated, “She [Catherine] made me talk to her sister on the phone, who was recuperating after giving birth.”
Christian described Catherine, a Psychology graduate of the University of the Philippines, as being “very smart and friendly.”
The 20-year old candidate was named as second runner-up and crowned with the title of Miss Earth-Water.
Miss Chile Hil Yesenia Hernandez Escobar bagged the Miss Earth title. First runner-up honors went to Miss India, Amruta Patki.
The Miss Earth 2006 competition was aired over ABS-CBN last November 26 and on a delayed basis on The Filipino Channel in Australia, as well as other countries in Asia, Middle East, Europe, and North America.
Cable channel Star World will have repeat airings of the environment-oriented beauty pageant on December 10 at 1 AM and 7 AM and on December 11 at 10 AM.
