Eddie Gutierrez brims with gratitude during the celebration of his 65th birthday on February 6, 2007, at the poolside area of One McKinley Place in Fort Bonifacio Global City.
"I feel blessed that I'm 65 and still enjoying life. All my friends from Sampaguita Pictures, all friends of Ruffa, all my children, thank you," says Eddie Long Legs, his nickname, in his speech.
He continues, "I'd like to thank Annabelle for taking good care of me." His better half Annabelle Rama quickly responds, "All the time, Eduardo."
The Gutierrez family has decided to hold a party for their patriarch following the Chinese tradition that once a person reaches the age of 60 and above, it is considered a milestone. Tita Annabelle says the next grand celebration will happen when Tito Eddie turns 70.
THE BIRTHDAY WISHES. Master Showman's German Moreno and John Nite serve as the program hosts. Kuya Germs call on the beautiful children of Tito Eddie for their birthday wishes.
Ruffa Gutierrez-Bektas: "He's 65 years old but he looks like he's 40. I wish you happiness. But I really think you kinda' have everything so I guess, good health."
Richard: "I wish you'll have 100 more years to come."
Raymond: "Dad, I'll just text you my wish (chuckles). More golf memberships, more days to play golf..."
Rocky: "Long life... I hope you live forever."
Monching (Eddie's son with singer Pilita Corrales): "Good health."
Richie Paul: "Live strong, something like that..."
Missing for that portion is Elvis and Tonton Gutierrez (Eddie's son with actress Liza Lorena)—the latter is absent.
As expected, Tita Annabelle's message is very straightforward: "Wish ko wala ka nang ibang titignang babae kundi ako. I'm sure sweetheart, kung hindi ako mabait na asawa, wala ka na sa akin."
She adds, "Witness ang maraming tao, ‘wag ka nang tumikim sa iba. Maski tumingin, bawal."
A STAR-STUDDED AFFAIR. Celebrities, media people, talent managers, and TV executives gather together to celebrate with Tito Eddie.
The birthday boy's contemporaries Ronaldo Valdez, Charlie Davao, Liberty Ilagan, Luis Gonzales, Pempe Rodrigo, and Robert Arevalo with wife Barbara Perez are present.
Ruffa's close friends in showbiz also show up—Gretchen Barretto, Pops Fernandez, Donita Rose, Carmina Villaroel and partner Zoren Legaspi, Almira Muhlach and husband Bong Alvarez, Ina Raymundo, Rufa Mae Quinto, Joyce Jimenez, and Assunta de Rossi.
Rudy Fernandez and wife Lorna Tolentino, Richard Gomez, Philip Salvador, Ricky Davao, and Isabel Lopez are also spotted.
Even the young ones flock to Tito Eddie's party—Richard's girlfriend Georgina Wilson, Ehra Madrigal, and Nicole Andersson.
Showbiz executives also grace the the said affair—Regal Films' matriarch Mother Lily Monteverde and daughter Roselle Monteverde, Solar Entertainment's Wilson Cheng, GMA Films' President Annette Gozon-Abrogar, GMA-7 Senior Vice-president for Entertainment Wilma Galvante, GMA-7 Vice-president for Entertainment Marivin Arayata, GMA-7 Program Manager Redgie Magno, and Eat Bulaga! lady boss Malou Choa-Fagar.
