As 2007 ends, so does Magpakailanman.
November 2002 nagsimula ang telecast ng true-to-life drama anthology ng GMA-7 hosted by Ms. Mel Tiangco. Monday telecast pa ito noon, although ibinabalita nang magiging pantapat sa long-running drama anthology ng ABS-CBN na Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK) hosted by Ms. Charo Santos-Concio being telecast on Thursday night.
Three episodes noon ang sunud-sunod na nai-tape para pagpilian kung ano ang magiging pilot episode, ang Didith Reyes story portrayed by Ara Mina, the Aeta law student story portrayed by Jolina Magdangal, and the septuagenarian high school student portrayed by Mr. Eddie Garcia. In the end, ang Didith Reyes episode ang naging pilot episode ng Magpakailanman.
By the middle of the second season, itinapat na ang Magpakailanman, with the story of a singing jailbird portrayed by Dina Bonnevie, sa Maaalala Mo Kaya. Lumaban man ito sa ratings, nanaig pa rin ang lakas ng MMK.
It was a singing girl's story that finally turned the tide for Magpakailanman. The Sarah Geronimo story portrayed by Kyla nang unang nakatikim ng tagumpay ang Magpakailanman sa ratings.
In almost 260 episodes—including about 230 originals, puwera ang replay—Magpakailanman proved to be the perfect foil to MMK na nagpalit ng timeslot. Magpakailanman won several acting awards for the actors na nagsiganap sa show, like Sunshine Dizon (Comfort Women story sa PMPC Star Awards for Television) and Noni Buencamino (AIDS family story sa Asian TV Awards). The show also won twice sa Catholic Mass Media Award for Best TV Drama.
August of 2007, nabalitang magsasara na raw ang Magpakailanman ng September. Similar news surfaced in October and November, but the show continued to air every Thursday night after the Telebabad block of GMA-7.
Mula September hanggang November, wala namang nakahula na tuluyan na ngang magtatapos ang Magpakailanman tonight, December 27, the last Thursday of 2007, with another Aeta story to be portrayed by Pauleen Luna.
Wala pang naka-schedule na pamalit ang Magpakailanman dahil in pre-production pa lang ang dapat na kapalit nito, a horror show starring Iza Calzado with a working title of Sindak.
