A few days before the Holy Week, cast members of Manay Po 2: Overload attended the March 13 press conference to promote their movie, which will open in theaters nationwide on April 16.
This Regal Entertainment movie, directed by Joel Lamangan, is the sequel of the first Manay Po, which was shown to the public in 2006. It tells the story of Luzviminda Dimagiba (Cherry Pie Picache), a mother of three gay sons played by Polo Ravales, John Prats, and Jiro Manio. This time, they have a new addition to the cast, Rufa Mae Quinto, portraying the babymaker who will carry the child of the gay couple played by Polo and Sid Lucero.
Since Holy Week is considered by many people as a time to get the much-needed rest and relaxation, the stars were all asked to reveal their plans for the long vacation. Direk Joel Lamangan said that he plans to stay in his rest house in Pansol, Laguna.
Some of the stars plan to spend their Holy Week at home. These include young stars Jiro Manio and Andrea Torres, a newbie who was introduced in the "Bangungot" episode of Shake, Rattle & Roll 9. In Manay Po 2, she plays a supporting role while Jiro plays Orwell, the son of Cherry Pie who is undergoing an identity crisis.
John Prats also plans to spend the Holy Week in Manila. He explains, "Sa house lang, kasi matagal na panahong nawala sa amin si Camille [his younger sister who just arrived in the country] at nandiyan yung pamangkin ko [Nathan Caesar], kaya sa house lang."
Comedienne Rubi Rubi says that she will have a serious Lenten break this season. "Kapag Holy Week po, nagpuprusisyon ako, nagkukumpisal saka nagbi-Visita Iglesia."
As for StarStruck 2's Ultimate Male Survivor Mike Tan, he has yet to decide where to go this Holy Week. "Sa bahay lang or baka magkayayaan kami nina Mark Herras, baka sa Laguna. Baka mag-rent po kami ng private resort doon."
Commercial model-politician Alex Castro plans to use this time to serve his constituents in Marilao, Bulacan. "Sa Holy Week, may project po kami sa Marilao, Bulacan. Kasi ang bayan po namin nadadaanan papunta dun sa grotto, so may booth kami para umalalay run sa mga kabataan na naglalakad papuntang grotto."
Other stars were upfront in saying that they will use the long break to spend a vacation in various tourist spots. For instance, Marco Alcaraz will go to Guam with family friends while IC Mendoza will be staying in Bohol with his family. "We'll be back on Sunday for the egg hunt. I love egg hunting," says IC naughtily.
Rufa Mae Quinto was asked "Nagho-Holy Week ka ba?" The Showbiz Central host responded by saying, "Lagi, todo na! Pupunta po ako sa China, sa Hong Kong, saka sa Macau. Hahanapin ko po ang tadhana ko doon. Soul searching kumbaga. Kapag Holy Week kasi, sa bahay lang ako. Never akong nagpupunta sa beach so ngayon, iibahin ko naman.
"Meron akong imi-meet doon [referring to Bobby Lopez, the Mexican-American guy that she has been dating steadily for the past few months]. Pero I'll be a good girl, don't worry."
The mother of the three gay sons in Manay Po 2, Cherry Pie Picache, says that she wants to spend this time with her real son, Anton. "Normally, kapag Holy Week, we really observe it sa family but ever since I had my son it's really a precious time na walang work, nakakapagpahinga ako. Normally, we go out of town or out of the country pero this year, we're planning to check into a hotel. Importante kasi sa kanya yung Easter egg hunting so baka mag-check in lang kami sa hotel."
Lastly, stand-up comedienne Giselle Sanchez points out that she has been actively supporting worthy causes even before the Lenten season. "My family and I are going to Boracay this Holy Week. Ginawa ko na ang good deeds ko this week." She then narrated that she was part of fundraising concerts for musician Bell Cruz and another one for the benefit of the Foundation of Third World Women, which helps rape victims.
The Regal Entertainment movie Manay Po 2: Overload opens in cinemas nationwide on April 16.
